@CdnTacoma No lift, 265/70r17 Falken At3w on Sema 4runner rims. Rubs on full lock going over curbs and ruts, trying to track down where it's hitting to stop it.

These two machines took me some places this May long! Love the Tacoma I’ve had for two years now and my bad ass Polaris I’ve had for one!

I am around 8000 km and apparently I have to take the truck to the dealer for a service. But I looked into what this service is, and it is just a collection of inspections for $79.10. Check oil dipstick, other fluids, brake pad thickness, etc.

Can I just do these inspections myself and document the results? Or am I playing with fire with respect to warranty?

Pretty sure they can't deny your warranty, unless they could prove you haven't been changing your oil or modified stuff.

I'll only have 8k after a full year of driving, so I will be getting my oil changed at 8k instead of the recommended 16k, which is fine by me.

Thats a dealer ask, not a warranty req. Just do those yourself.

Most people get their oil changed at the 8K service, although it is technically not required. It will be on top of the service cost. I think an oil change at 8K on a brand new engine is a worthwhile investment.

I actually looked into this when I first got the truck. I emailed Toyota to ask what the *required* services are, to preserve the warranty. This is what Toyota Canada said:

    Dear MrCanoehead:

    Thank you for your reply.

    Please reference page 24, in your Owners Manual Supplement, under Required Maintenance;

Maintenance of your Toyota vehicle is required every 6 months or 8,000 km, whichever comes first and includes the services and inspections recommended by Toyota. To help take the guesswork out of maintenance, your dealership will provide the Toyota Maintenance Menu specific to your vehicle and tailored to your driving habits.'

We have provided the link below:

    https://www.toyota.ca/toyota/en/my-toyota/owners-manuals

For more information regarding maintenance services, we kindly suggest consulting with your dealership service professionals.

Since we would like to ensure our records are up to date, we kindly request that you reply to this e-mail with your Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), current mailing address and telephone number.

We thank you again for taking the time to contact us.

    Sincerely,

    (redacted)
    Customer Assistance Centre
    Toyota Canada Inc.

This 8000 km "service" is "factory recommended" and I am interpreting it as mandatory according to the above email.

Now, it doesn't say that a Toyota dealer has to do the work. So maybe I can just do it myself and sign/date the log book I keep.

Does your Toyota not have “Toyota Care”?

It covers all oil changes and tire rotations till 25,000 miles (40,000+ km.)

Must be an American thing, have not ever heard of that.

I took the truck in this morning, they did the "personalization" for free so it came to $56 and change plus taxes. They knocked down the tire pressures from 36 psi to 29, but they were pretty good about bringing them back up after I pointed it out (I am running aftermarket KO2s and I find they like 36 psi).

They also gave me a gas card worth about $24 if I buy 888 litres within a year.

All in all, it was a pretty good service experience and I will likely do all the required services at this particular dealer.

EDIT: There was one odd thing that they said, which was that my aftermarket tires, which raise the truck about 23 mm, may cause the forward facing camera, forward facing radar, and rear blind spot radar not to work correctly. Doesn't sound right to me.

I got Toyota care on mine.
They should have offered it if your truck was new.

Never came up when I bought the truck in Ontario last November. It is all good, I got a good deal and Toyota services are cheap compared to the Euro metal I have.

Is Toyota care the same as the extended warrantee or is this another option free or costing?

It only covers the first 2 oil changes...AND 4 "sunshine services" (open hood let sunshine in...look left and right at the fluid levels... slam hood)..... It's built into the US cost....

In Canada, you gotta buy it..... Not sure how much, but when it came up I told them no way !!!

I think it's $500 or so for 2 oil changes.

Yeah, cheaper even than Chrysler services.

As far as I understand it does extend your warranty but it’s different than just an extended warranty because you get the service intervals pre-paid as well.

    Plastic rub or metal?

It's probably right by where the mud flaps rub . This is where my 265 70 17 rubbed when I had them .
Just heated it up with a heat gun and pushed it back. No more issue
Pic is my 285 so a lot has been cut off. But check there I'm 90% sure that's where you would be rubbing

You don't need to have any kind of proof, if it's within warranty it will be fixed depending on what failed powertrain (100K kms warranty) or electrical (60K kms warranty)

I used to have 2015 that never been serviced by anyone except me, front diff actuator failed at 70K kms and Toyota dealer replaced it without any questions.
The 2018 I got came with 2 free oil changes, but I prefer do all maintenance myself.
