Those were subsidized rates. Your bank was being paid for those so the effective rate to the customer was 1.5%. I know because my wife financed a car through Hyundai and that's how she got 0% from Scotiabank. I talked to the finance guy at the dealer about it, because we had priced out Scotiabank separately and it was ~4% with our excellent credit, and he basically explained that corporate paid off the bank to get that rate because Hyundai didn't have a financing arm. For the companies that still own their financing, like Ford and Toyota, they don't pay off the banks because they can handle the 0% rate internally. For GM or Dodge they have to pay off the banks or their independent financial arm to get those rates. Bascially "x" bank will approve a customer at the lowest rate, like 4%, and then GM, Dodge, Hyundai, etc will make a lump sum payment to bring the rate to whatever they want to offer the customers.

I was just poking around at a Tacoma not to long ago because of some damage to my current rig. The best rate I could get was the 4.49% if I went long term. My bank wasn't even close.

If you're right then this confirms my suspicions that the lower interest rate quotes the sales manager gave me will likely impact the reduction in price for the purchase of the vehicle.

On a different note, does the TRD DCOR from the US have colour matching rear bumper and our TRD ACOR have the chrome, this is what it looks like from a video I watched?

Not necessarily. It's corperate at a company like Hyundai that pays down the financing over and above any other wiggle room they offer the dealer. So if corperate leaves them wiggle room on the price normally then odds are you won't see much difference on the financing rates.

Depends on the package. The US TRD OR can come with the upgraded electronics package which gives it the colour matching bumper. In Canada we only have one package for the TRD OR so it's likely missing the colour matched bumper.

Was driving by the dealer on my way home from work today and saw a freshly delivered Blue TRD sport. Had to do a u-turn and go back to see if my truck came in early. Unfortunately it was not mine in was a TRD sport with the upgrade package. Not what I had ordered. The sales manager says mine is still scheduled for delivery on the 23 of march. So the count down continues 12 more sleeps.

I have finally seen a few 2nd gen short bed trucks around, I figured my '16 DCSB would be a bit of a unicorn with all the long beds here. Although still haven't seen a '16 in SB.

Just got back from a test drive of the '16 tacoma and a '16 canyon my first time driving either one. My first impressions of the tacoma were very good, I loved it with the exception of a few things. First was the shifting at highway speeds, I've read on here that it won't downshift unless you take your foot off the gas and that's exactly what I noticed, this was annoying. The other concern was the fuel mileage compared to the canyon. Both vehicles brand new hadn't even been PDI'd yet and had under 15 kms on them and after the drive the tacoma was averaging 17l/100km and the canyon was 13l/100km which is quite a difference and concerned me. I know it's over a very small test drive but it was the same loop and I didn't drive differently in either truck. The other difference was the overly documented lack of seat adjustments. It was nice being able to get in the canyon and jack the seat up another two inches of height. I prefer the toyota, I have always bought honda/toyota products but I feel like it's just not quite there yet. I might have to wait for the '17 and see if they add the power seats...

On another note I can confirm that reduced interest rates are buy downs and will effect your discount. If you want to go through a bank you can, but you'll pay for the reduced rate.

Don't trust the computer, check of fuelly. Manufacturers don't calibrate the system or double check that their math, which makes a lot of assumptions, is correct with all fuels.

It looks to me like IRL the Tacoma has a slight advantage gas engine to gas engine and cab size to cab size.

I've used fuelly in all of my comparison shopping online and I know the computers are usually out but never by 4l/100km, usually its only out 1 or 2 max! It's not a massive issue, as you said fuelly is based on a massive sample and will provide real life estimates. Just wanted to comment on my experience.

I would give the computer a couple of tanks before I trusted the trip computer on either vehicle.

I know this was addressed already, but you are spot on.

We can only offer the same advertised interest rates you find on Toyota.ca. We have no choice in this unless we go to an outside lender other than TFS. Even with stellar credit, the best I've gotten someone from a bank was 3.99%. Any other "low rate" is artificial, as you've stared, we are buying down the rate with the gross profit from the car

Mind me asking what term the 3.99% you were able to get was without having to buy down the rate and cut in to discount off price?

It was a while ago, but I got someone 3.99% for 48 months from BMO. I've only been able to get this once.

Just did a Highlander Hybrid Limited through BMO for 4.59% (VS 4.89 from Toyota) for 72 months. Saved my customer about $910 over the term. There are options out there, just be nice to your salesperson and they will go to work for you to get you the best deal.

Yah it is littlechilds, I found a thread where he posted a picture of his truck and it's identical to the picture on kijiji. In the thread he pointed out he had some issues with the truck specifically the new engine/tranny combo.

That sucks. Must be a hard decision to sell a truck only a few weeks after he bought it brand new.

    haha, hey guys. Good investigation!
Yes, it is me, and yes, this is my first time ever considering getting rid of a ride before my typical 3-4 year window.
As for the price, the mods on it are well over 3k, and I'm not dumping it for a loss, so if someone in BC or elsewhere wants to avoid local taxes and not wait for a new truck...here I am:)

I can only look at the truck for so long (Looks insanely great under the night lights), but the changes Toyota made...I think I am officially done!

how many km you have? Looking at the comparables (on kijiji) and the add-ons I'm including, looks like my price is not that insane, plus if I don't sell....I don't sell, meh
