Unfortunately when you register the truck in bc its 12% tax on top of the purchase price.

My limited has 4k on it now and no issues. I had the trans and u joints serviced before I left the dealership.

Truck looks good! good luck with the sale.

    Free Trade my ASS!
Hello to all!,sort of a new old topic!!!
I am in Ontario and have had my tacoma for about one and 1/2 months. All is good and for the most part I have been in the shadows. But I want to bring up a point of getting after market stuff on this side of the Boarder! I all fairness I know the Canadian dollar is in the toilet , but thats LIFE! That aside we Have this thing going with THE great country of the USA call free trade. Bullshit!!!!! Point being I ended up ordering a Bak BakFlip F1 for my truck, Up here the distributor want $1,649.00 plus Tax ($214.37) giving it a grand total of $1,863.37.
I am fortunate that in my young years i went to school just out side of Buffalo. There is a reunion going on and I will be down there on April 29 weekend. I have an old friend that will receive the package for me from Auto Anything! These guys are so good, discount, free shipping.... the short conversation is I am getting the F1 for $949.89 and NO TAX. Something we do not Know about up here. (Hell if they want to stimulate the economy why don't they reduce the tax!) So if you take the USA price of $949.89 and put 30% exchange rate (Canadian dollar is at 25%, 5% extra) = $284.97. Leaving me with a Grand total of $1,234.85 CANADIAN !!!!! the difference is $628.51 This my friends is FREE TRADE at its best.

I am going down there and putting this on my truck and I AM not going to declare it. I am now going to be a criminal!!!!

Any one else should do the same.

Auto Anything Operator: Athene at Extension 7129, good guy!!!!

PS: sorry for what you guy in BC are going through. hope things turn around for the Province.

    Jamie

I paid ~$1250 for my bakflip revolver x2 for an F150. I simply shopped around in Canada. The Ford dealer wanted $1800. The local Ford dealer, who I know well, wanted ~$1400. The local independent aftermarket dealer was ~$1250. I went with him. If I had of ordered from the USA it would of been more. $899 USD to be exact from autoanything plus the cost to go get it from the border in time and gas. I always pay the tax because I cross often and it would be a major PITA to risk quick crossings over $50-150.

USA interstate shipping is tax free for now but that's probably going to change shortly. However, you do still pay tax there quite often on in state purchases depending on the locality even if the item was produced somewhere else.

I would judge the value of lying to CBSA with the risks. If you get caught for some reason you'll never have an easy crossing again. You'll get to enjoy a random search everytime you go on a family trip to the USA. What a pain over at most a couple of hundred in taxes.

I just picked up my coilovers at across border shipping today. I paid $50 in tax on $1000 in goods. Oh, and 5.99 USD for the pickup point to receive my goods. I would of went local but no one here deals the brand I went with. All in all I have no worries and I'm happy with purchases either way. The across border trade was "free", I only paid GST not a tariff.

In Calgary, they were selling for $1200 in Edmonton, and under $1100 at a store here in Calgary for a quick sale…so….yeah

Agreed. I think he was getting ripped by the dealer and didn't bother to check other local independent dealers and aftermarket shops. He just hopped online and flashed the credit card more than likely.

Good luck with your sale. You should consider yourself VERY lucky if you can sell the truck for $47,500. MSRP is $42,827 and it's not hard to get $2000 off MSRP for a brand new truck. Modifications are so user specific that unfortunately, used mods are generally only worth 30-50% of original value.

Well, it would be more accurate to look at it as…MSRP including taxes and levies is actually $45,500, but I do understand where you are coming from. I was considering $46k, and still might. I just personally don't want to budge on assessing the accurate value on the tonneau cover and wheel rim combo whixh both are mint, plus I'd hate to ignore all the labor of love I put into it as well...though I know it's unrealistic to consider it :hattip:

Try partsengine.ca - I found their prices to be very competitive, they often have coupon codes and they provide free shipping.

Also, if you do try to purchase in the US and not declare it - a word of warning - some of the more modern border crossings (actually most of them unless you are really out in the boonies) take a photo of every vehicle that passes through. They can access that photo when you come back and if a major difference (like a cover) comes up then guess what happens next. Not saying it will happen but it is a possibility.

The benefit a buyer of your truck will have is they won't have to pay GST again - as opposed to brand new or off a used lot.

I wasn't sure how the tax on a used vehicle worked in AB, that puts his asking price in a better light. You Albertans are lucky, here in Ontario the govt collects the full tax amount (13%) every time a vehicle is purchased. New, used, dealer, private: doesn't matter...the buyer pays that 13%

You should do what's best for you but the following worked for me: when I wanted a tonneau cover, like many I started at partsengine.ca. The price was OK ($1100) but still hundreds more than the US websites. Then I checked the manufacturers website (in my case Extang) and used their "find a dealer" function to locate local dealers. I started at the top of the list and called about 10 places, price quotes for the exact same tonneau cover (Solid Fold 2.0) ranged from $950 to $1700. I also contacted 2CoolPerformance.ca and was quoted $920. I've dealt with 2 Cool in the past and they almost always have the best prices. Unfortunately, 2 Cool is an hour drive from my house and in this instance, it wasn't worth the time/drive to save $30. I ended up buying for $950 from Pearl Autocare, 5 KM from my house. Pearl ordered it and it was in the next day, awesome service.

TL:DR: it's worth 15 mins of your time to search the manufacturer online and call local dealers. For online part shopping I recommend 2CoolPerformance.ca

Excellent advice. Almost exactly what I did. I ended up paying $999 versus the $1150 parts engine.ca quote…picked up on my way back home from work.

Costco.ca also sells tonneau covers online with free shipping.
