    Howdy.

I'm thinking it's finally time to say goodbye to my little Ranger and trade him up for a Tacoma.

I'm gonna head over to the Automall today to have a look and discuss numbers.

What I want is a TRD Sport automatic with as few bells and whistles as possible.

What kind of options can I exclude to keep the price down?

In British Columbia, what will the price be, taxes in, everything in, out the door, and what kind of deal can I realistically expect if I grind them a bit.

    Thanks.

If you can find a 2016 with the options you are looking for, or lack thereof, expect about $2000 off MSRP. If purchasing a 2017, expect to pay MSRP. Toyota dealers don't move far off that, if any. If trading in the Ranger, deal hard on that trade-in value and don't bother talking new truck price. They will either low ball you on the trade-in value or give you a little more and new truck at MSRP.

Thanks. Is there any advantage to buying a '17 over a '16?

Were there any bugs with the '16 that they may have worked out for '17, or is everything exactly the same?

Same, other than a litre of tranny oil added to the auto and a new remapped tranny ECU. But you can get that for free at the dealer when you purchase a '16.

wow $12k difference between the TRD OR 6MT and the TRD PRO 6MT, that certainly reassures my purchase of a 16' TRD OR 6MT :D

Past Ranger owner as well, internet high five!

The only real option you can cut down on the sport is the "upgrade" package which gives you sunroof and a couple other minor details (can't remember exactly). I seem to recall this was about a $1400 option. So deducting that, and adding more tax in BC than I paid in Alberta you should come out pretty similar to the $42.5K all-in that I paid for mine.

Word on the street is that the newer (post-July manufacture) 2016s are actually coming with the updated transmission ECU software. So the only difference between 16/17 should be a power sliding rear window.

I see that for 2017 you can get the TRD Offroad in a double cab short box only. And you can also get it in Quicksand.

:) I traded a Ranger in for a '13 Tacoma Limited. It was a good vehicle, never had a problem, just too small.

@kagia if you want the best deal, look around the lots for a '16. You might have to compromise a little, and don't discount a vehicle because it has a few options you might not be looking for. They want to move those vehicles out of their lots, since the 2017's are beginning to arrive. If you start to walk, they will grab you back and start to deal. Best advice I can give you is don't be over eager and look around a little. There will still be options tomorrow.

Good luck with your purchase, and when you get it, make sure you return with some pics and share your experience.

BTW..welcome to TW. Lots of good folks on here to help you out.

Yeah I'd actually rather it didn't have a sunroof. Can probably do without the other minor upgrades as well.

That little Ranger was damn good to me. I'll be sad to see it (and its lack of monthly payments) go. Bought it new in 2011, put 147000km on it and never had a problem. Unfortunately, due to five years of serious neglect and hard abuse, it's going to need some work that'll cost more than I'm willing to spend.

I still don't get why you can only get JBL in the Limited, when in the US you can add that on to most other models. Same for the back-up sonar.

Thanks for the advice. Gonna head down there in about an hour.

When I join the club, will I be expected to do the wave? Notice a lot of people do that these days in certain vehicles.
