To all my fellow Canadian taco owners: if you had a choice in getting a 2018 US taco vs. a Canadian taco, which would you rather have and why? Looking to buy my first Tacoma this summer and would appreciate your insight! Thanks!

If I could have chosen, I would rather have a Canadian SR Taco. They come with fender flares.

Canadian Tacoma’s have set options for many things. American have more ability to pick and choose individual options based on many discussions here. May or may not be a plus or a minus depending on what options you want. Best to confirm with a local dealer and one stateside in case my information isn’t accurate.

Just wondering if there is a warranty issue to be concerned about buying a Toyota from across the border, or does Toyota carry them both?

Aren't the emissions crap less intrusive on the Canadian models?

Canadian dealers treat US trucks/owners like crap. Our neighbour tried to trade in their US 2007 TRD Sport and the dealership wouldn’t take it. They ended up trading it for a Titan at Nissan, they loved the trade in.

A few 2nd Gen owners were boned when Toyota Canada wouldn’t do frame swaps on US vin trucks..

I would have preferred a DCSB Offroad with a manual transmission. Not available in Canada. I made some inquiries about buying a new vehicle in the US. Most dealers aren't allowed or won't sell you a vehicle knowing it'll be exported. Not sure about buying used. Make sure to look into the RIV process for importing a vehicle into Canada.

My preference would be Canadian, the exchange rate for one thing, transport cost to bring it back to Canada, paying any import taxes at the border, vehicle inspection requirements, speedometer mph primary instead of kph and it could be a drag on your resale down the road as mentioned above.

Thanks all for your imput! I had heard that the Canadian models did not come with entune system. Just curious if there was anything else that we didn’t have in ours?

    - ICON UCAs, BP51/Kings, SCS wheels, 285s, Leer 100XR canopy. Greenlane aluminum winch bumper, Smittybilt X20 winch. Trying Falken AT3w now, Really like BF KO2s.
If the truck is used, say a 2017 with a few miles on it its easy to bring back into Canada, as long as it was made in the USA. My brother bought a truck from Arizona and drove it home to BC back when our dollar was on par, very easy to do.
Now with the exchange your better off buying in Canada.
