My 06 SR5 4 door was bought new in Canada, I just bought it and have a mystery light on the lower left of the speedo. It is an upside down light bulb that flashes for about 30 seconds then goes solid after start up. Local dealer is mystified as am I. It does not go away after oil interval reset..... Any ideas?

Did you check the manual? (Assuming there was one in the glovebox when you bought it)

Yeah, now that you guys have said it. That definitely sounds like the Tire Pressure monitoring system dummy light.

    Does it look like this?

If this is your tpms and your dealer seriously didn't know - find a new dealer.

Lol my dealer failed to disclose my truck didn't have the sensors on. 5 min after picking up the truck the light came on I'd have gone back but I was late for a hockey game. I never fixed it just got rid of the light

Couldn't agree more. No matter what light it is on your dash the dealer should know!

by law all vehicles sold by dealers must have tpms installed and working

if the vehicle is old and pre-tpms, an aftermarket module must be installed

Not in Canada. TPMS was legislated in the US and is not a requirement in Canada. We have many vehicles sold here that don't have it. Toyota also sells some models that have it and others that don't. My wife's 15 Camry which is loaded doesn't have TPMS but my Tacoma SR5 does. Figure that one out?

My local Toyota dealership (in Canada) told me that if a vehicle came from the factory with a TPM system they have to confirm it functions before selling it. I didn't ask if it was law or not.

I am not certain, but I don't think the FMVSS cited above deals with the sale of used vehicles that were not prior equipped with TPMS.
Indeed. I am also almost certain my state has no law requiring a "dealer" to install TPMS on every car manufactured without one...

Find a new dealer... but IMO they owe you tpms sensors since your truck clearly came factory with the system.

I think you're correct - The only part in the article I could find pertaining to used vehicles is as so:

"NADA questioned the NPRMs discussion of vehicles without an owners manual, which NADA thought might refer to used vehicles (see 69 FR 55896, 55906 (Sept. 16, 2004)). NADA commented that NHTSA does not have authority to require point-of-sale dissemination of TPMS information other than through the vehicle owners manual."
