At least we’re not in Australia. Guys down there get the massive shaft on everything. Several Aussie farriers have come up for certifications and the like, and they’re astounded how absolutely cheap things are. Go eat an $8-9 diner breakfast and they’re like “we could buy two or three for what this would cost down under.” Same thing with pickups. I think the last one I worked out of, paid $26k ish for it, one guy said for him to get an equivalent pickup in Australia would run him something like $60k? I don’t remember exactly now, but it was more than double.

Stop looking at units that have been "Upgraded" or "Customized" by the dealership. They mark that shit up 4-6 times. I am in Calgary and I paid $45k ($35k USD) in June 2020 for a 2020 TRD Sport Premium 6MT with the WeatherTech style floor mats ($120 option) and Pro skid plate ($600 option). You need to know what to look for and how to negotiate.

As someone who has lived in both Canada and the US, it really makes no sense. Sure, there are some folks who think it is related to the two current administrations (heck, they will even put them in quotes because that somehow means something) but the reality is that this has long been the case and it not entirely the fault of the "government."

It really makes no sense but it comes down to a lot of factors, but the biggest one appears to be the auto makers themselves. They do this because they can.

    One recent study found:

"Largely because of the desire of the Japanese, German and Korean auto companies to increase the amount of profits they take from Canadian consumers, the average new vehicle is $5,842 (17 percent) more expensive in Canada than it is in the US ... The study shows that, in general, the Asian and European firms are charging Canadians a lot more than Americans for new vehicles than the US-based firms are."

    Older data but revealing nonetheless:

What is even crazier is that Canadians pay more than Americans for cars that are actually made in Canada!

I really wish this could be looked into and remedied. It is so unfair. What is worse is that the Toyota dealers really crack down on warranty and stuff for cars bought in the US into Canada, too! I had a buddy who bought a used Tacoma in the US and got it across the border. The two local Toyota dealers would not service the vehicle under warranty because it was purchased out of country.

Just seems like the whole situation could be better ...

It's not right but I doubt it things will ever change. Here is the funny thing...American brands are known in Canada as domestic :rofl:while a Honda made in Canada is an import and a Toyota Tacoma made in Texas is also an import in Canada:D
