Come on down to the States :oldglory:

Since it seems like a lot of items are more expensive in Canada, are wages generally higher for a similar trade vs. the US?

Same argument for petro. Alberta's the leading exporter of raw crude to the US. Its stupid that Canada dosent upgrade/refine its products here and then sell it to the US. So we buy it back from the Americans at gouged prices and on top of that pay huge taxes.

Why do we pay $4 for a loaf of bread and americans pay $1 when we harvest all the wheat.

All of the companies are American based, same with cars, bread ect. There going to make them cheaper for there home country even when the products come from a different country.

Yup, min wage is higher here. Higher education jobs are pretty similar in wage. Its still not a big enough difference to acount for the price gouge.

AB and SK have the lowest min wage in Canada, $9.50 and $9.40. however, AB and SK are #1 and #2 in GDP per capita.

Pretty much. During the recesion was the biggest difference. Now the canadian prices on USED cars has equaled out a bit. On cars over $30k its still well worth it to buy american.

The big difference too is selection. They dont make dcsb's in automatic in canada. So if you want that, gota buy american.

I thought you could get either manual or auto in the DCSB Sport or SR5 here

I bought my truck in the US (Vermont) back in 2008 when the Canadian dollar was at par.

Saved close to 10k on a TRD Sport. It took a bit more paper work and a waiting period (60 days) and some BS inspections when i imported it but it was well worth it.

I would of prefered spending my money locally but i could not ignore those kinds of savings.

A couple of years later we purchased another Taco (2011 SR5). Longer waiting period but still worth the 6k we saved.

You can't. Thats why there are so many DCLB unlike in US. 99% of people want auto. If it was available in automatic there would be more DCSB than DCLB just like down in the states.

Canada: DCSB = 6MT and DCLB = auto.

I read another article on this a few months ago, I forget who said it but one of the top guys for GM canada was quoted as responding, "Vehicles are priced higher in Canada because Canadians are willing to pay more"

It was something like that anyways..
????? Cheaper cost of living compared to where??

It doesn't matter where you live. Market value will be at the threshold people are willing to pay. Stop buying at that price and it will come down. Yes, I know that isn't really an option for you guys but it is what it is. Just like down here, if they raise the price and people still buy it, it will stay there.

It's more than that though... It's bullshit markups. How can freight charges to Hawaii be cheaper than the dealership that's right down the road?

Otherwise, I agree, it's like any major city in the US. Costs will always be higher in the city for a number of reasons: the biggest 2 being that dealerships' costs are higher and people generally make more money in cities so they'll pay more.

It does suck to get gouged for anything made right in your own country however no one has mentioned there are a lot more ahem social programs in Canada then here in the us. The most expensive one being health care they already have what the current idiot in the white house wants here in the us medical coverage for free or mostly free. I am sure its not the best coverage as a lot of people from Canada and allover the world come here to the us for specialists . I am also sure their gnp and gdp aren't as high as the us but they have land mass that is almost equal and have to maintain the infrastructures etc. None of it makes it right to get gouged though, what's the alternative be as in debt as the Us is?

We get screwed not only on price but also on options.

No Regular cab, Prerunner or DC Off Road models available here.

It is already the case in US so I don't see how it would be different here. Just my opinion...:D
