Just wanted to see if others are cancelling their 2023 deposits with the news of the 4th gen confirming a manual. I was looking to get one of the last MT 3rd gen until I heard this news.

EDIT: This does not automatically mean people are buying the first year 4th gen. I for one, was purchasing without needing a vehicle- this will allow me to buy when the market is much more consumer friendly.

So what do we think? 3rd gen values going up or down after 4th gen is officially revealed?

If the 4th gen price is increased, and the reliability uncertain, it stands to reason the resale value of used 3rd gens will decrease at a lower rate than they would have if the 3rd gen continued to exist.

It was kinda hilarious seeing everyone trying to secure a 3rd gen manual since “it was going to be the last one” based on what the cousin of the dentist that does the cleansing for one of the guys that it’s friends with someone at Toyota corp. said.

if I was on the market I’ll damn straight would have been aiming to the latest and greatest. Cheers!

I think down easily, too many quirks with the 3rd gen IMO. Auto transmission is horrific for one.

While it's cool they're keeping it, I can't see how cancelling your deposit on a 2023 MT for a first model year truck is a good idea.

I get that 4th gen is exciting but idk if id want to be one of the first people to get one. Who knows what problems it may or may not have. While the later 3rd gens are already known to be reliable. Just some food for thought.

Don’t necessarily have to be first, the fact that we have confirmation of a manual transmission takes the pressure off. Wait a year or two after release.

Don’t be so certain. The redesigned Tundra has not been a stellar hit. If Tacoma follows in that direction, a “quirky” transmission in the 3rd gen could become a relative positive.

We all have our opinions. Let's see.... They have sold over 1.5M 3rd gens. Let's say 10,000 don't like their auto shifting....
That's six hundredths of one percent. Yeah, let's listen to them. My truck shifts fine.

    Very true!!!
I was feeling pressured to try to secure the last of the M/T era but not so much anymore.

Glad to hear there will be a manual. No plan to switch from my 3rd gen at this time but nice to know I’ll have the option if I want to!

Wouldn’t surprise me if Toyota rolls over the V6 from the 3rd gen with a manual as the base engine, then drops the manual in a year or two.

if i were in looking to buy within the next year and wanted an MT, i would choose the 3rd gen over the 4th gen. there is no way i would drop $40K or more on the first model year of anything.

    Working on it ...
I keep my trucks for years and years. Have had 4 of them. All of seen extremely high mileage. I work them and I play them fairly hard but I maintain them well. Could actually care less about the resale value of my GEN 3 as I enjoy not making monthly payments and have no need to replace it with the latest and greatest shiny object toy.

In approximately 200,000 more miles (have 56k miles on it now) and I am perhaps looking to replace my current GEN three, I will buy whatever new GEN is out at that time and be happy with it. :)
