Because 99.9% of people have no idea what the vehicle is doing and it doesn’t bother them. I’m not one of those people, I’m particular when it comes to stuff like that. I enjoy driving and can appreciate a refined machine. Also, the terrible shifting doesn’t kill its reliability… and that’s what Toyota is all about

If GM, Ford or Ram only had just these issues they would be considered great!
The asian brands would have never had a chance in the north american market. The only reason the domestics are better now is that they have been trying to catch up to the asian brands for 40+ years. I've owned only domestics and have grown quite tired of their poor dependability and the acceptance that is given to them. I'll try the asian brands for a while and if I were to give them the acceptance of poor quality that the domestics have I probably won't need to buy another domestic. This is my first asian vehicle and I really can't complain on inital quality. Every domestic I have purchased new had to get a few quality control items fixed. Poor closing doors, water leaks, electrical gremlins, vibrations and oil leaks. None of these issues have come up (yet) on this truck.

So again if it doesn't bother 99.9% of the people, why is it a problem for them as you insinuate it is?

It is only a problem for you and those like you, the 0.1% by your numbers, not us which was my point in the beginning.

There are constant threads and complaints on it- it’s not just me so let’s cut the nonsense. My point is people are generally, to put it nicely, dumb. But again, if you’re fine with how it shifts - it’s your truck, not mine

I really like Tacomas but I never felt the urge to go and buy the 3rd gen, probably part Toyotas fault building a truck that lasts forever with minimal issues.
The way things are going I'll probably be looking at the 5th gens, but then I'd hate to take a brand new truck into the bush, pin stripe it and bang it up.

After 3 years, my 2020 Tacoma transmission has not learned my driving habits so I'm getting a manual. I drove an F150...it shifted perfectly.

To be perfectly honest, it's not terrible...it's just that I'm left with a feeling that it's someone else's truck every time I drive. Over time it becomes a hassle...a pain point I really don't need. I live in LA, it's hilly and there's traffic so it brings out the deficiencies a bit more than most places.

I think the Tacoma automatics are simply over-geared to jack up CAFE numbers and that's the only reason. It's probably a stop gap measure until the new model solves the problem.

I remember it like yesterday, i was driving to the dealer to trade it in - was a hilly ride and it had its own worst day yet. I was happy to let it go. The transmission was unacceptable IMO

my 2020 SR5 and the OR had shifting issues for the first 2500 miles, my 2023 doesn't seem to be affected. I would buy a 3rd gen with the V6 over the new 2.4TT.

Jesus H Christ..... you had a problem with your truck, others do not have a problem with their trucks so don't keep saying there is a problem with people because they like a truck you obviously don't.

You haven't driven Hipsi's truck nor mine, we like how they shift yet you continue to say there are problems that we refuse to acknowledge, a problem that only seems to be with YOU and the 0.1% according to your numbers, not any actual facts.

I'm done arguing with this fool and this thread, good luck with whatever truck you decide to buy.

Some do, but I guess I should have phrased it "dealerships for other manufacturers."

I agree. What I'm getting at is those other dealerships are having a harder time selling vehicles so they're having to resort to cutting out those "market adjustments" and other dealer markups. Meanwhile Toyota is still selling and struggling to get inventory because of it. What they do get is often already sold. Demand is still high.

Do me a favor... find me a perfect.... anything!
    Perfect person
    Perfect vehicle
    Perfect tool
    Perfect place
You cannot. Because because everyone has different opinions on who, what where, when and why things are perfect. My transmission shifts fine to me. Yours apparently sucked.
However, be forewarned against chasing perfection, especially in a mass produced something. The partial definition of something mass produced means many will like it but some will not.
For example, I built my own garage rolling seat. Why? I tried three and they all had issues. But, I did not go to the comments section of their product page and rate them though. I just voted with my wallet.

Lol Toyota Tacoma was the least discounted vehicle on the market long before Covid. And it will be the least discounted again. You will get $500 military or $500 1st time buyer and that's it.

The word you are looking for is ignorant, as in the "Ignorance is Bliss" saying. Right now, Yellowstone might be ready to blow but you are not a geologist or volcanologist so you are just happily going on your way. Something, that does not bother (let me get the right number) 99.994% of people but bothers 0.006% of you (that's around 10K) is fine. I have yet to read a post where a transmission wore out from overshifting and there are many 300K rides out there now so really it's just the experience you don't like. Right?
One word about the manual... I had a Tacoma MT and it sucked in reverse. The gear was so tall I had to slip the clutch constantly so I got an auto. But I tow a lot and it really bothered me, but probably not a lot of other people who did not tow. Did I come here to bitch? Nope.

I couldn’t agree more, every first year generation had kinks that need to be worked out. I don’t understand the rush to buy a new gen, just wait one or two years and you’re usually golden.

You have to be completely tone deaf or only willing to hear what you want to hear if you think the transmission issue affects only a small portion. Toyota literally issued revised transmission tuning to try and fix it, that right there should tell you its WAY WAY bigger than this 1% number that you made up.

Not sure anyone’s coming here to bitch, actually quite happy to see the MT going into the 4th gen- could easily be a more refined truck(I’m guessing so)

Will the 4th gen have a self-driving option? Set it and recline for a nap? That's the only thing that will get me to trade, barring something catastrophic.
Or bringing back the regular cab. :bananadance:
