Haha, yeah it was cool that Ted mentioned that in the video. He has been a great guy and good friend to race against. I tried to describe what an awesome race it was and how close we were to catching the factory Toyota team. The photos of the Tundra with the side torn open was the result of the Toyota team taking drastic measures to stay in front of Canguro Racing. Had they not taken that risk that resulted in the damage it's very likely that Canguro would have caught and passed them and taken the top podium spot.

Fun times. Can't wait till November when Canguro Racing heads back to Baja again. Toyota won't have a factory team this year (from what I know) so Canguro Racing has a great shot on a class win. I wish Toyota would have a team there so that "rivalry" could continue.

 

Toyota Will Have a team for this year I think... Mike Swears said something about it in a video of the 2016 Tacoma

 

The Long Beach Racers who have been long time partners with Toyota (they built/drove the the TRD Pro Tundra last year) are currently building a trophy truck with a Tacoma body but it not a Factory backed project. I don't know of any plans for a Toyota factory team for this year. If that changes, that's good news.

On another note Canguro Racing just finished with a first in class win in the Vegas to Reno race last night. That's the longest race in the U.S.

 

I'm not just chasing for Baja this year but I'll be co-driving as well. November can't come soon enough!

 

I used to build Class 5 and 11 bugs back in Texas. Funnest cars to drive by far. Talk about an indestructible vehicle....

 

Very nice! And to be co driving this time too, man what an experience to be had I'm sure. Who will be getting the pics this time around?

 

I will say that a Class 5/11 car is a ton of fun. Canguro Racing started with a Class 5 car and a podium finish at our first Baja 1000. As for being indestructible......well, we have a few DNF's that would say otherwise. But Class 5 is an awesome class. The Class 11's are NUTS, and as hardcore as you get in the racing world.

We have 6 drivers/co-drivers so I won't be in the truck the whole time so I'm sure I'll still get lots of pics.

 

Bumping this thread since we're less than 3 weeks away from hitting the road to Mexico again. We've been working hard on the racetruck for a few weeks now and spent a long night this week getting the suspension back into the truck. New lower control arms and the rebuilt KING bypasses. Still a few more things to button up in the next week and then we'll hit the desert for a little testing to dial in the shocks. We're looking for another podium finish in the Stock Full class this year.

For anyone that cares, here's a brief summary of what happened with Canguro Racing this past weekend during the Baja 1000. I ended up being in the truck for approximately 6 hours and the race course was BRUTAL! I'm still sore. If you've never raced in Baja it should be on your bucket list. There is NOTHING like going full tilt in a race truck in Baja. Parnelli Jones wasn't kidding when he described it like being in a "24 hour plane crash".

I finally had a chance to go through my photos from Baja. It was much different for me this year as a co-driver and I did not get many photos at all compared to years past. I really only got race photos at the pit location where I got into the race car at RM113 near Erindira. I have a few from Tech Inspection and from Contingency as well. Enjoy.
