Suddenly me changing mine every 1500 seems like it shouldn't be such a bother to your little heads

Having a wet clutch that I hammer on constantly, riding as hard as i do, riding in the dirty enviornments that I do, its nothing for me to change the oil as soon as it gets dirty. Which happens to be about every 1500 miles.

Its a small price for the piece of mind that it may make the internals last 5-10k longer than most people get out of them.

If I had a street bike like you, i'd only change it every 3k or once a year depending on how much riding I did

Still doesn't change my statement. There's a difference between changing oil based on the manual and changing it because you think you need to. Not saying you don't need to do it that often on your own bike. But again, two completely different justifications for changing the oil.

We make fun of you because your bike doesn't NEED to have the oil changed at those intervals

You say you're doing it to help the internals and save the motor, but I bet you could buy a new motor when it would normally need it with all the money you've spent on oil changes

    ...read my post again

"When the motor does need replacing"

I'm sure you're going to spend a lot more than $260 over the life of the motor

Who knows. In all actuality, it could grenade at any time, like any motor. So i'm keeping it as fresh as I can. Sometimes short term expenses don't have to be sacrificed to save long term expenses when piece of mind is easily purchased. I have no problem spending money on this bike. Its a toy, its not a logical financial decsion. Had I made one of those, i'd have left it 100% stock or not even purchased it in the first place.

Someday when it does start knocking or it does leave me stranded on a trail, at least i'll be able to say, "well, it wasn't for lack of maintenance."

With the KTM, you basically have no choice. Its such a tight tolerance, high compression motor with good parts that it needs constant attention to last. They'll last about as long as any other bike, but they're more finicky because they're so good.

I think I've decided on the FZ, should be about $9100 OTD with the dealership closeout sale. Hopefully be able to get close to $3K for the Ninja also.

The WR is still on my mind as well but I do think I need some more time in the dirt before I get a dual sport I can barely touch the ground on. I am normally a fan of getting thrown into the mix to learn something but it makes more sense to me to get a faster street bike like I have been wanting and get a dual sport later if I already have a dirt bike I know I can tear up and not worry bout it. KTM is still a maybe down the line but, (although $10K isn't a crazy amount of money for what the KTM offers) it is a little much for something I will most likely be tearing up.

Gonna head over to the dealer tomorrow and get some quotes for sales prices, financing, etc

Anyone want to buy the Ninja? :)

Ninja has been pretty much locked in for a sale this Wednesday. Purchased a 2017 Yamaha FZ-09 to replace. The Ninja has taught me a lot over the last two years about riding, and I have never really regretted getting a small bike to start on; I've said it before but although I may have been fine starting on a little bigger bike, it did teach me patience, riding skills, emotional maturity, as well as being very forgivable when I did make a mistake. However, it is finally time to move onto bigger and better bikes, and I hope the Ninja continues on to teach the (hopefully) buyer the same lessons.

A sad day to see my first bike leaving me but I hope the FZ brings me even more joy!
