I think it will get better but search for "overfilled gas Tacoma" and I'm sure someone has done it. Glad you figured it out. First step would be to use some of the gas I bet.

Glad it all worked out .
Evap systems are designed for vapors, not raw fuel. I'm not sure if you can expect it to be purged by driving to remove the raw fuel, then continue working properly.
There should he a filter, purge valve and corresponding hoses connecting everything. (there's possibly other parts there as well). I don't believe you can clean the filter, you might have to get a replacement.
But you might be able to blow out the lines and valve.

Maybe check online video sources to see if there is potentially one that can show the EVAP system in detail, and possibly detailing a similar issue and the corresponding fix.

    Good luck

Went out this morning, fired up The Silver Queen (we always name our trucks, daddy said it was bad luck not to) and there was no CEL! We are back to normal. Thank you all for your help. I'll stick around this forum for sure.

    Excellent!!!
Looks like maybe you got enough fuel in there to temporarily set off the CEL, but not enough to be permanent. :D

I'm an old DYI guy. Everytime i find something that just not right, doesn't make sence or as changed after a job, it didn't just happen by itself 99..9% of the time. As much as i don't want to, i go back over what I did and find that curve i forgot to pay for. Thats how i found your thread. I'm going to be replacing my head unit soon and i'm reading up on it. so thank you for posting as i will not be paying up for my fuel guage being off when i'm done. LOL

Well, you're welcome. Glad to be a part of this group. Hope your new HU swap goes off without a hitch. I will say, I ordered everything from crutchfield and aside from trying to get the BU Camera to also show on the HU it was easy as pie.
