I mentioned this in my teardrop thread, but I haven't had any luck figuring this out so starting a specific thread.

I've tried two different scanners and two apps (OBD fusion and the OBDlink, which looks exactly the same) but both scanners/apps will give a "no data receive" error when entering the custom pid. I contacted OBDlink customer support and their first question is do I have a trans temp sensor. I'm assuming yes given that so many here have reported using a scanner to monitor when towing. Is there any reason to think the 3rd gen doesn't have a sensor?

If the sensor exists, is there a way to know if it's working?

If it exists and is working then I must be doing something wrong. This is the info I entered for the custom pid.

    English units = F
    Min value = 0
    Max value = 300
Metric to English scale factor = 1
    Module/Header = ECM
    OBD Mode = 21
    PID Number = 82
Equation = ((((A*256)+B)*(7/100)-400)/10) Also tried for converter temp ((((C*256)+D)*(7/100)-400)/10)

Also tried C and D for the converter temp. Always get this error. Any thoughts? Thanks for any help.

I'd still like to figure out what is going on, but I have verified that the Trans temp sensor works. I bought an OBD Link scanner and the Toyota add on pids and using their predefined options for temp 1 and 2 I was able to get it to work. Of course, this scanner is a lot more expensive than the basic ones that should work fine if I can ever get the user-defined pid to work.

Have you reached out to the app devs?

I contacted OBD Link support. They were useless. Didn't know anything about a user defined pid and just said to buy their add on package. I emailed OBD Fusion so we'll see if they have any suggestions.

Frustrating. Sorry to hear that. Your setup looks much different than my SC2 as I just had to manually enter 4 sets of codes then name my custom view (took about ten minutes to plug in all the codes for TF1 and 2).

Did I link this TW thread in your other thread? If not here it is and you may want to chime in over there. It looks like that is a dedicated thread to your application.

Thanks for the link. I don't think I saw that thread as it's about Torque Pro. However, skimming through it I found some info on OBD Fusion and they are using a different equation so I'll give it a try. I returned the original scanner I had though so not sure if I can get OBD fusion to work with the OBD Link one but I'll give it a try.

Well, I got it to connect, but I'm pretty sure something is off.

I use the OBD Fusion app and found I needed to buy the extra pids for Toyota and then you’ll get proper readings for trans temps and just about anything else you want, it cost an extra $ 9.99

I found a different equation that ended up working.

What is the equation? I'm running into the same problem.

I appreciate the quick reply! I'm not sure why my Display Fusion is refusing to give me this temp.. This is the first equation that seems to "work" (as in it's not giving me an error when I punch it in), but it's still not giving me the temperature.

Are you on Network A ? or the regular OBD2? I'm wondering if my OBD2 Bluetooth scanner is faulty.

I'm not sure I understand the question. I was able to get this to work with an OBD2 bluetooth scanner. I ended up returning it though so can't test it now.
