Canoe & Foam Blocks Over Roof on DCLB

    We do an annual 600 mile (one way) trip up to Canada in an '02 with a Y bar on the hitch, which I see probably wont work for you. If you've got a topper, the foam blocks should be fine being strapped down all the ways you described. Otherwise yeah, looking like you'd want a rack or bars at least. You could build a bed frame to support the back possibly. Interested to see what solution you work out! Good luck!

    I would also look at bed racks as well. Home Depot sells them.

    Thule also makes one, but they're expensive. Maybe try Craigslist.

    Also, just as an FYI--you do have a front tow hook, but it's under the front bumper. I'm sure your paint will get scratches from the rope if tied at this point.

    I transport my Swift pack boat 13.6 (cross between a canoe and kayak) with just 4 foam blocks and two cam buckle straps.

    Get them down tight, put a rope from front handle to the tow hook in the front to tie it down for extra long trips.

    Just stop and readjust if it starts to move.
    I noticed no matter how hard I strap it down from how Swift suggest to transport it still shifts if there's enough of a cross wind, in no way like it will come off but enough that its worth adjusting.

    I used the foam blocks for my kayak and they never moved. Probably because I had the ratchet straps so tight that one of them cut into the hull and left me a nice gash.

    Mines only 12' aluminum, but it doesn't budge. I just use 2 straps & the foam blocks.

    But in your case I'd consider using front & rear straps too.
