Back friendly: no overhead lifting/no mpg hit/no overhead wind noise/removes easily when not using it......T-bone rack/bed extender from Boonedox. It doesn't get any easier than using your truck bed. That's why I bought a truck in the first place. It's aluminum (strong/never rusts/featherlight)
How I placed my kayaks in the bed looks funny I know. I've tried many different ways but my particular kayaks are the most stable placed this way due to their shape and the protruding wheel wells(first kayak placed flat down with the other resting on it).
The bright orange color gives me visibility when I'm parked empty without kayaks. I have peace of mind that someone will see it and not run into it. I also added pads that act like rollers and flags again for more visibility and to keep the fuzz off my case. I replaced the stock quick release pins with through bolts then put JB weld over the bolts to make it theft resistant.

I had another "L" shaped bed extender in the past. It was steel and weighed a ton / rusted badly within a year/ and scraped the ground frequently even on my high off the ground Pre-runner. The T-bone is definitely worth the higher price.

I have the same one. Love it. I painted mine black though. I didn't like the orange.

Yeah I stuck some reflector trailer stickers on it. And I stick it in the bed or backseat (if there's room) because I haven't found my locking hitch pen.

I love my Leer/Thule crossbar combo. Locks down tight and the bars come off in seconds.

Thanks. I have a 30 year old Grumman 17 footer. I have tracks on my shell but haven't had the canoe on yet. Was thinking about getting a Yakima bar for the cab. This gives me a good idea what it looks like with just two bars on the shell.

I use Yakima towers and crossbars. Because of the height of the towers I bought (they're lower, but really dont know if other heights are available), and the location of the rack, rear part of the truck, loading and unloading is tricky. The bow of the canoe will contact the roof as you slide it forward or rearward, gotta watch that. Also not much clearance at the top of the windshield.

Thanks for that. I think I'll put a bar on the cab too so I can move the canoe more forward and away from the windshield.
