This is probably a dumb question, but what is the orientation of the gas shock on a canopy hatch? Does the cylinder mount towards the hinge or the latch part of the hatch?

cylinder up shaft down so dust and dirt don't have a place to stick and wear on the seal

Thanks. I bought a canopy and the hatch was slow to open. Reversed the orientation to cylinder up, now it opens much quicker.
