I lived in Santa Cruz, so we were never in any real danger of having SMOG related issues and to my knowledge there is still a good deal of water there. Cali needs to be split, the desert lower can be South California which needs SMOG rules, the upper could be North California and be held to Oregon standards.

Online or in person? I haven't tried in person yet but as for online, it seems like this just recently started being prohibited. I wonder what would happen if I tried buying the Redline gear oil again that I bought a couple months ago...

edit: just put the Redline in my cart and it allowed me to put in my shipping address which is more than I could do with the supercharger oil yesterday. Still won't let me add the supercharger oil. Weird considering they are essentially the same thing, just gear oil.

yeah I'm going there if I can't get it at the Chevy dealership I'm driving past after work. I'm just perplexed why some gear oil is okay to buy online and some isn't lol.

It actually might have to do with Prop 65 labeling requirements. I have no idea for sure, but if the bottle has the prop 65 warning, it is in compliance. I know the GM 12345982 oil does not have any warning about it. Did the redline gear oil? Just a theory

The use of various sulfates and leaded additive packages will give you instant contact cancer (Only in the state of California though).

That wouldn't surprise me, knowing CA. Not sure on the labeling of the Redline oil but that would make sense.

Didn't make it to the GM dealership last night, going on my lunch break soon to see if they have it.

I searched high and low online for a definitive answer on the oil capacity for the supercharger, there's a thread on here that says you need TWO 8oz bottles of the GM oil (which must be a typo because they only come in 4oz bottles...)

Found another thread on Yotatech where a member purchased the TRD Supercharger Oil change kit (they no longer offer this), and he mentioned it came with a single 120ml (4oz) bottle of oil for the project. So I'm leaning toward believing that's the correct amount. I'm going to pick up a couple of them to be safe.

Basically, however much oil I'm able to suck out is the amount I'm going to put back in...I suspect it will be close to 4oz

What gen do you have? I believe the 2nd gen hold just above 4 oz. TRD's replacement oil bottle is 120ml so 4.057oz as stated above. It's safe to say you can just get one bottle and be fine but if you have any leaks then a second bottle might be worth it just to be safe. I always did 1 4oz bottle and never had issues.

I will caution that I was only able to suck out about 60ml, and I spent a considerable amount of time re-positioning the hose to make sure I wasnt leaving any in there. The Charger took the entire 4oz bottle with no overflow. So if 120ml is the proper amount, then I did get all of the old oil out and my S/C had burned off about half the oil (i do not beleive it to be leaking).

The primary reasons I swapped oil: (1) history of S/C was unknown to me; (2) rattle in S/C at idle was not normal and inconsistent (I initially thought bad bearing).

After replacing, idle is smooth and quieter (before at times, sounded like rocks in a tin coffee can). Truck seems to perform better. The old oil was black, smelled really horrendous. New oil is golden clear, doesn't smell horrible.

Nice, my superchargers history is unknown to me as well. Came with my truck when I bought it this past March, truck only had 24k miles on it but the dealer wasn't sure when the supercharger was installed, or if it was new. I'm pretty sure it was...its got all the original decals and warranty/smog stickers so I assume its got less than 30k miles on it but I want to change the oil as a good measure. Thanks for the info guys. Hoping to change it out tonight after work if I can find the oil

Local auto parts store doesn't carry one
