Can't decide if it's a good price on a 2023 Taco

    Hello Everyone,

Its been about 2 years now that I've been interested in a Tacoma. I currently own a small little hatchback and its limiting me to urban terrain. Im a huge outdoor guy and grew up on a ranch, Im missing it alot.

That being said, my father had a 96' Toyota Land Cruiser and I have nothing but beautiful memories of that truck when I was young. As I grew older and drove it, I couldn't get enough of it. Needless to say there were probably only 2 or 3 parts ever changed on that vehicle and it was consistently working the backroads and even carrying cattle and heavy equipment in the back. Ran like a champ.

Hopping off my fangirling moment and asking the question here. Its time for me to dive into a Tacoma. I've researched quite a bit around my state and realized a ton of them have dealership markups of up to 9k!

    What Im looking for:
    -TRD Off-Road
-Automatic Transmission (limited because of the bed size)
    -Double Cab
    -6ft Bed
    -Technology Package.

This dealer Im looking at is the only one I dont see with markups. MSRP is at around 47k final, out the door price is 52k

    Theres include the above plus:

-Advanced Technology Package (the multi-terrain control one)
-And the Premium Off-road package with Leather seats, JBL audio, etc etc.

    Its currently being built.

Is that price worth it? Am I insane? Should I walk away or put the deposit down now?
    It is within my means.

    Would love your opinions!

Seems about right on price. Welcome to tacomaworld.
If you don't buy it, someone else will. Thats just about where it is now. The dealership knows it wont sit around.

If you have the 'means' and want all of that 'stuff' then by all means do it. You'll be glad you did and I believe these late-model GEN-3's will
be looked upon favorably for years to come.

I'm quite happy with my 2021 SR5. It performs well and looks good for about 10k+ less... but if you got the jack and want it, get it.

I mean I am not 100% sure of your question.

Is msrp a good deal on a new Tacoma ? Kind of yes.

    Should you buy it?
Is it the truck you want ?
Do you want all the options?

47k is more than my trd pro msrp wise.

I bought my Pro for that.

What state are you in, and are you willing to travel?

Edit: I guess I shouldn't say I got it for that. I got it at MSRP, and I pay the taxes separately. I think it's silly to pay interest on the taxes, and they vary so widely that I don't ever include them in OTD pricing.

if you can afford it, go for it! MSRP doesn't seem bad in this market, especially if it has everything you want and you're not compromising on color or other features.

Well, the 2023 Pro is showing MSRP for an Auto at around 48-49k.
Im set on the 6ft bed, and I feel like Im basically getting a PRO with the added packages besides things like exterior cosmetic changes and Fox Shocks. Am I very mistaken to think that?

A Tacoma is not worth that amount of money.

That's near what I paid for my PRO. For awhile when I was getting impatient waiting on it I'd search for fully optioned out TRD OR's and realized they came close to the price of the PRO.

If I absolutely needed a 6' bed and auto I'd go your route as well.

    Pro gets
    1. Different exhaust
    2. Different skid plate
    3. Different front grille
    4. Different cosmetics (stiching on seats, hood scoop, hood graphics, rear tail gate stamp)
On top of the ride height and suspension changes you already mentioned.

A Tacoma will always sell for at or around MSRP...so getting it at MSRP is fine.....52k OTD for a Tacoma is ridiculous though. Do you need all those options? My 2020 OR 4x4 with the LED headlights as the only option was 37k MSRP...I don't think parking sensors, dual climate control, and leather are worth 10K on these trucks. That is just my opinion though.

If you need the long bed it doesn’t matter if a TRD Pro is $30,000 or $60,000 if it only comes in a short bed.
Do you feel comfortable paying $50+ OTD for the Tacoma?

You're not mistaken on the features. I wasn't meaning to suggest that you buy a Pro instead, but the price sounded high to me. I forget that most people include tax in their OTD quotes. This makes it unrelatable numbers for anyone that isn't in the same area/state, and with no location given it's hard to say. What is the OTD without taxes? That's the only way anyone can tell you if you're overpaying or not.

For reference, here's a couple MSRPs that you can use to gauge the pretax price. MSRP on a Pro is a good deal currently. I've heard tell of any trim below being able to get a little better than MSRP.

TRD Pro with no accessories below, straight from Toyota. You have to remember the destination charge that you're going to pay on any vehicle.

    upload_2023-1-30_10-31-7.jpg

Here's a TRD OR optioned as you stated with no accessories.

    upload_2023-1-30_10-37-12.jpg

In the end, fair price is determined by the buyer. If you are willing to pay it, it doesn't matter what any of us think. Just be sure to share pics when you get it!

    It's not $10K.

    upload_2023-1-30_10-49-59.jpg

It also includes these items that you did not mention.

    upload_2023-1-30_10-51-48.jpg

You're comparing a price that has gone up at the base and blaming it on the options. Here's what your truck would cost today. Also, did you get any rebates on yours? All things that have to be considered.
