Can't decide if it's a good price on a 2023 Taco

    Welcome!
MSRP seems to be the going rate these days so I wouldn't worry about that too much.
But don't get talked into expensive option packages you don't really need. Toyota makes a lot of trucks, and they will be building one to match your needs soon enough. Find a dealer/salesperson that is willing to work with you. It took me a few months to get what I wanted, and the dealer kept trying to get me into a truck with a bunch of extra stuff, but eventually I got exactly what I wanted.

It sounds like you already know what you want. I bought one pretty much the same except short bed. When I saw it in the dealer's showroom I knew in the back of my head I was going to do a deal before the end of the day. It didn't have a window sticker so I knew the price was jacked. It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks, especially people on a forum. Don't let it be the one that got away. You can afford it and down the road a little higher price won't matter when you're using and lookin at it. Just go for it

I just built a tacoma on Toyota's website, 2023 Tacoma trd off road double cab long bed...starting msrp 39,515. Packages trd premium off road packages with options 5,070. Delivery, processing and handling fee 1,335 brings total msrp to 45,920 as built.

At that markup price, that's trd pro territory (with no markup). There are deals to be had, you just have to look for them and be patient.

Guess it depends on how much you want the truck. If it were me, I'd look elsewhere. You can always try looking up tacomas on cargurus.com, autotrader.com or something similar and look within a certain radius of where you live.

I think you picked the wrong package. The one on the truck he is looking at is below. Has to have the Advanced tech package. MSRP would should be $46,820 for the truck OP is talking about, and he does say it's at about $47K. The jump to $50K+ is going to be dealer fees and taxes, and you'll pay that on anything you buy. That's why taxes should always be left out of OTD pricing so people on the internet can get an accurate comparison point.

Pray tell, what can you do with a 6ft bed that you seriously can't with a 5ft bed? Opening up that option will, er, open up more options...

Also, the premium package is a waste of 5K if you ask me. All you get is pleather seats and less headroom because of the sunroof. The JBL isn't worth it, stock stereo is just fine (unless you believe what people say about how it sounds, rather than just listening to it and being happy). Heated seats are a pure luxury, my truck got me to work in 0deg F weather this morning without issue.

At the end of the day, do what makes you happy! You won't beat MSRP unless you have a friends/family discount. Maybe try to get them to waive the delivery/shipping/handling fee nonsense.

People here are comparing prices they paid in 2020 to what OP is asking right now in 2023. You can't compare. Toyota raised the prices on everything.

Some people like having a sunroof and heated seats. Some want the MTM, and some want a 6 ft bed because they actually use it as a truck to haul stuff. That's why they are called options.

If you can get it for MSRP and its all of the stuff you want and nothing extra then go for it. If you can get it below MSRP even better. But definitely DO NOT PAY OVER MSRP right now.

Not helping to come in and say I also paid $48k for my 2021 Pro new. no fees, with sales tax/tags it was about 51k all said and done(dealer refunded me the BS etching, wheel/tyre warranty, key insurance)
This sums up the current market and ends this thread.

I meant no harm with my words or assumed anything. I really did ask if I was mistaken because Im open to all of these opinions and thoughts. I appreciate your kind words and apologize if I came off as being defensive.

You are in fact choosing the correct packages that the dealer has on it.

    Thanks again!

My 2022 TRD OR DCLB with the TRD Premium OR Package (Double Cab A/T $5,070 with leather, JBL, moonroof), Technology Package, LED lights, skid plate, bed lighting kit, floor and door sill liners was $45,446. There was no dealer markup. Happily the same vehicle without the leather seats/JBL stereo/moonroof came in and I took that and had heated Katzkin leather seats installed and saved some money. If you want to upgrade the stereo, a JBL system is harder to upgrade.

Throw in taxes, etc., you may not be far off.

Most people can't sleep in a 5' bed or use it as an actual truck to work with...

Can people really sleep in a 6ft bed? If so, that's really the only thing that might apply (but it's kinda like choosing a car based on the cupholder). I can carry 4x8 plywood in my 5ft bed with the tailgate down so what else might you need for "an actual truck to work with"? Honestly, the drastically worse turning radius with the double cab 6ft bed is a bigger problem to me than being able to sleep in the bed, or still have to put the tailgate down to do some work. With midsize trucks I find the bed length argument a little weak and artificially constraining, just my two cents.
