I posted in a previous thread why I went with the Tacoma over other trucks, now I have a deposit down and they agreed to meet another dealerships pricing, which was invoice. Only this dealership is letting me custom order my own. So I'm trying to decide on the which to get and still undecided on the color. If you post, please no posts about the transmission and other stuff. Most of the posts in the VS thread are older and from people who dont own one yet and mainly talk about things unrelated to the thread.

I test drove both the OR and the Sport. The sport felt a bit tighter and had a bumby ride. Its nothing that will really bother me. The OR felt a bit better are a driver, but you could really feel the tires, but those can be changed latter.

Both are identical on the interior so no comparing there. However, in the Sport, I cant see that great with the hood scoop! I like the look but I cant see with it on! I'm 5,6". So I prefer the flat hood and I'm sure someone would gladly trade with me though.

I like the look of the sport better. I live in the city and rarely will go off road. However, I'm also a person that believes in useful value. Meaning you get useful value for what you pay for with the OR. Meaning the locking diff, crawl control, better suspension. Which I think ads value and will be more wanted.

So it is a tough decision for me as I like aspects of each, but I only also like colors in the different models.
Sandstone and MGM on the OR (prefer the Sandstone)
Blue and MGM on the Sport (prefer the Blue)

Any help would be great from people who have one of the other, and how you like it.

Sounds like you should get the OR. The painted fenders/bumper of the sport can easily be done on the OR. The locking diff and crawl control - no way to be added onto the sport.

You can add a locking diff in aftermarket too... It's really up to you op, get what you like.

As rock lobster said, if you aren't going off road the OR is overkill and you would essentially be buying the off road tech for the next guy. Buy which you enjoy more and won't have to change. Are you going to be adding lockers if you get the sport? Probably not. Are you going to be painting flares and doing hoods with the OR, more likely.

What do you mean by feel the tires?

Sounds like you won't be off-roading if you find the factory tires to be "too offroady" and don't like them.

    Street queen = Sport.

This is my Sport in silver, love it, and I can still take it OR... just not rock crawling, only because I think I would kill myself, I stick to the basics, trails/mud/snow/etc. Picked the sport because I liked the look a bit better, so do that :)

Why go with either. Go get the Limited. Dont like the scoop, dont use the 4WD. BTW, I am 5'6" and after the first day, the scoop is a non issue.
color? well, are you flashy or conservative? White is a clean look while Silver is classy. To stand out Inferno, Red, Blue or Quicksand. Black shows swirls after the first wash and most have the ole standby MGM.

once you go TRD there isn't much difference in price. Either would work well for you. Even a non TRD in 4x4 would work if you want to give up the niceties.

I like silver, however, my fiancee' just got a silver Nissan Rogue, my mother just got a silver Escape, and my brother in law has a silver F150. So I dont want Silver. My car I'm getting rid of is white, so dont want another white.

I like the way the Sport looks a bit better and can trade the hood to someone. However, I could tell the difference in the ride between the two. The OR was much more pleasant around Pitt, where there is a pot hole every 3 feet and uneven roads. Plus, I have always wanted to go off roading and the OR gives me an excuse to find another hobby. So thats why I am torn. Looks or usability.

Has anyone noticed any type of MPG difference between the two? or know anyone who works at a dealership and can honestly attest to it? Obviously MPG is different with every person, region, and type of driving. The Sport seams like it would be more likely to get the better MPG because of the air damn and more road tuned tires.

I like the look of the Sport better in white and silver, I like to OR better in quicksand and inferno. I just ordered a Sport over the OR in silver. I don't off road much and when I do it is only mild stuff. My '03 is an off road and I used the locker twice. Both times just to make sure it was still working. That was the reason I went Sport for my '14. I was getting ready to finally start doing some upgrades on it when I let a dealer talk me into a '16 while my truck was getting an oil change. (really wanted to get the tech in the '16's) I saw no reason to go OR for the driving I do and really think the crawl control is kind of gimmicky.

This is what I did .. I sat down and I wrote out all the things I do with my vehicle and what I wanted in my new vehicle. I assigned weighting values to each that ranged between 0-1, and they all totaled up to 1. This means maybe passenger leg room was 0.1 but off road capability was 0.25, just as an example. I then went out and test drove a bunch of vehicles and looked at available options, prices, etc., and I took notes about the things I did and didn't like about each. I then sat down and looked over my notes and gave each vehicle a score between 0-10 for how it met my needs/wants I had identified earlier. Then multiplied the score against the weighting factor, and then added the scores for each category up to give an overall score for the vehicle ... In the end my two highest ranked vehicles were the 4Runner and Tacoma. Reliability and off-road capability were high on my list, as was being able to fit in my garage ... Honestly, the 4Runner ranked higher for me, but in the end I went with the Tacoma because even with the off-road package it was going to be able $6-7k less than the 4Runner I wanted. Plus the Tacoma came with a manual which was real appealing to me :) ...

I know that sounds like a lot of work, but that's just how I processed it and figured out what I wanted. Maybe you don't have to go crazy with scoring and adding shit up, but it may help to at least write up what you're looking for. This way you've identified specifically what is important to you, and just that process of putting it down on paper would help you out ... You can't really just let other people tell you which way to go, you have to figure this out yourself so that you're really happy with the final decision. You are going to know what you need/want more so than any of us. Let those needs/wants guide you, not a bunch of assholes on the internet ;)

4WD will have slightly lower MPG. I sold my white 08 Taco to buy the new one and the wife's last 2 Jeep Sahara's have been silver. My Harley's have been everything in between but I have found myself trending more to the deep red's. The Wife said if I got the Inferno then a divorce was in our future. My neighbor just bought a Blue 15 TRD Sport so I didnt want to get BBP and confuse either wife! And MGM was definitely off the list. Not a fan of Quicksand and Black is so damn hard to keep looking good. So Barcelona Red it is!

Well considering your circumstance I dont think you could go wrong with either one. True the OR may be overkill since you do not do any off roading. If the hood blocks your vision then you may want to get a fully loaded SR5. It is still 4x4 but it does not have the Sport supension and the hood scoop. Another thing you may want to consider is resale value. Good Luck

Unless you are going to do SERIOUS off-roading (rock climbing, mud and sand pits), the Sport is probably better. It is distinctly smoother on the highway (you said otherwise, but I have driven several of both, and the off-road tires are rougher and noisier). Very few people ever truly use the locking differential, and although I would love to have the clinometer, I am happy my salesman talked me out of getting the off-road edition.

Im leaning toward the OR. It just has more upgrades mechanically than the Sport. I'm a buyer that likes getting more for their money. I have already started to see Sport parts on Ebay and craigslist. So, I am sure a year down the road Ill be able to find the color matching fender and bumper inserts. Already found a pair of take off sport wheel within an hour of my for $850 brand new. So, I can basically make the OR look like the Sport, but I have all the capability of the OR. So thats what I'll probably do.

Color wise, I like the silver, MGM and Sandstone. I have the deposit on the Sandstone OR, however the more I look I like the Silver and MGM a tad bit more. Some part of me keeps saying that its too plain! get a cool new color! so I dont know color wise...

I found this to be very true when I was shopping. At most dealerships in my area, the price difference between the Sport and OR was negligible. Taking the mechanical differences out of the equation, I think I still would've chosen the OR based on aesthetics alone - particularly the way the black fenders and chrome bumper compliment the paintjob.

I was in the same boat and when I drove the two I liked the way the OR handled. The non functional hood has never been appealing to me and the fact that you can tell that the fenders are a two piece color match, not my style.. I like the look of the black flares on all the colors and down the road I would have done it anyway. Like most are stating for the MSRP on TRD's go with the one you like most. For the price tho, I may be a bit bias, the OR is a better deal. Mechanics over cosmetics.
