So I've currently got two trucks I'm looking at:

2015 DCSB sport w/12k miles, JBL w/nav (steps and skit plate added). I can get it for $27.5.

    Or

2016 DCLB sport w/1.2k miles, steps and bed cover added. Would try to get it for $31k.

I know all tacos have excellent resale but I'm not sure if it's worth the extra $3.5k for the new model. It does have the keyless start, better looking wheels, little better fuel economy, etc. I'll have the truck for about 2 years and will probably put 30k miles on it. im assuming there will be a lot more used new body tacos fs in a couple years and the 2015 will depreciate just a little more because people will want the newer tech that the 2016 has. I would also be more tempted to add more to the 2015 (such as a bed cover) that the 2016 has already, putting the cost of the 2015 closer to the $28.3k mark.

I know it's mostly personal opinion, but what do you guys think?

Yes sir, was not impressed with the 16 one bit. My 15 is kickin ass so far. Only cool thing on the 16 is the tailgate in my opinion. But hey man its ur decision. Do what makes YOU happy

Just look at all the trouble threads on the 3rd Gen forum, and that should convince you to only choose an earlier generation (2015).

There's a reason someone got rid of a 3rd Gen after only 1K miles, and it probably ain't good.

You are posting this in 2nd gen area, so I'm sure more people will say 2nd gen. Post this question in 3rd gen area and more will say 3rd gen.

It doesn't matter what We say. It's what your wallet can handle, and which one you want to drive. How long you want to keep it for reads like only two years... So if it was my wallet making the decision it'd be the 2nd gen. If you were gonna keep it for 10 years well that's a whole other story.

I ain't gonna drive your truck neither is anyone else on here. Make your own choice you have to live with it.

The 2015 was the last of the great perfected 2nd generation , or almost perfected lol. 2016 has a butt load of problems that will not be fixed for years to come. I have a 2015 and wouldn't even think about trading it for a turd gen. Do yourself a favor and get the 2nd gen. Even if it isn't that 2015

I have a 16 DCSB and have had only minor issues that were easily resolved by the dealership. But like you said 16 has more tech and better gas mileage. 15 has more aftermarket parts available at the current time, is definitely more refined of the 2nd gens. I went with the 16 because I think it looks better and is more comfortable than the 15 IMHO. You are going to get a lot of people on here that say the 15 is better because that's what they own even though they've never owned a 16. I have never owned a 15 so I can't say which is better but I do not regret my decision on the 16 for a single second. Awesome truck

But you just said you have had issues with your brand new 2016 , minor or not. If I was paying that much for my truck I wouldnt want any issues at all. I've had my 2015 truck for 17 months with ZERO problems issues or defects

looks like Alabama to me. The rednecks think the Fire Lanes are for parking. I would go with the 2015.

I've had my 2015 for 11 months and have been to the dealer over half a dozen times chasing down a jacked up trans issue. Ended up being low trans fluid

Yes. I didn't lay into the new 16, but it didn't seem way more powerful. I am tall and did notice the increased seat height with only about 2" of spare headroom.

    Gen 2=Known quantity
Gen 3=Jury is still out (respect to Gen 3 owners)

Hell, if you're only going to drive it for a couple of years, get the 15 and wait until the 2018/9 model year. Toyota should have most of the teething bugs associated with the Gen 3s ironed out by then. That way, if you like your 15, keep it. If not, well, I'm sure there will be a shiny new Gen 3 with your name on it somewhere.

FWIW, I just bought a loaded 2013 DCLB Sport 4x4 with 31K miles for $28,500 to replace my 2006 DCSB 4x4 with 152K. I'm comfy with the Gen 2s......as others have said, not enough of an improvement in the Gen 3s to draw me away from the known quantity.
