Occasional throttle lag in maintaining speeds, (when on off throttle coasting). Six months Mechanic trying to diagnose problems, only happened twice when he drove it. Changed all coils, spark plugs wires and fuel filter. 2004 Toyota Tacoma with 225207 miles on it.
I have same problem with my 2004 Toyota Tacoma 200,000 + miles.
Cutting out around 1500 to 2500 rpm, pump gas pedal a few times. It's super scary when in the fast lane on Turnpike. Loose all power.
Doesn't do it all the time, off and on for 6 months, and only did it twice for Mechanic.
He explains it as "falling on its face".
I do my own oil changes every 4000. Miles. Trimming belt replaced at 1500.000 miles.
Since November Mechanic changed fuel filter, spark plugs, wires, coils and unrelated water pump hoses and serpentine belt.
    Problem still persist.
I read every word on this site and I'm going to get sea foam on way home and do the 100 pump on the pedal.
Thank you I have new Hope

Seafoam is garbage compared to other fuel cleaners. If you really want to clean the shit out of stuff, get a bottle of B12 Chemtool or Techron concentrate. I usually use a dose every oil change.

Also, not sure the "100 pump" trick will work since you are Throttle By Wire.

My '03 DC started doing what is described in this thread last summer. It was intermittent and aggravating! Well, it started doing it again a couple weeks ago. Usually just a slight hesitation when accelerating from a stop and sometimes when cruising at lower RPMs. I ran across this thread and tried it last week. No problems so far!

    Thanks DblCabMN!

Nice to hear it helped! If i recall correctly, eventually my problem came back. Found a guy parting out his engine and bought the upper plenum and throttlebody w/tps from him for a crazy low price. Has been solid ever since. IIRC the replacement for the 03/04's requires the whole TB to be replaced at like $700. So, keep an eye out for a deal :)

OMG! I owe someone some beer! My truck has been hesitating and it was driving me crazy. Here's a Post I highjacked about it: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2003-tacoma-hesitates-while-driving.435305/#post-15540577

I had replaced fuel filter, spark plugs and wires, most of the hoses, replaced PVC, cleaned MAF sensor. Never suspected the TPS. Just did the gas pedal pump yesterday and so far no hesitation (I have only been driving it today).
Thank you, thank you, thank you! This should be re-written as a sticky somewhere!

Old thread, but I've done this twice on my 2003 3.4 probably 3-4 years apart. Worked both times, but is there a way to take apart and clean the TPS thoroughly so that this problem doesn't come back?

Not that I am aware of, the pedal pushing repeatedly is essentially that cleaning method. I do it probably twice a year at most, when I start to notice any issues coming back I just sit in the drive way one day upon getting home and pump the pedal 100ish times and call it good. Has worked ever since I discovered this thread.
