I know that my best option is to sell out of state.
“no frames available “ was the last word I suppose.
Thanks for your saige advice O’ silver!

Could run an add on the 1st gen classifieds here...... a lot people here have 'frame history' here.
that is have frames and/or know where some might be......

What would be sweet is find someone here who has the time and resources over the coming winter months.....

A year ago I even had the resources.....until the mexicans lost their lease on the their garage.....
I got the motor swapped just in time.....

I want to say this thing shouldn’t be on the road, because it probably shouldn’t, but the irony here is that if this thing can pass a smog, you could plate it in California.

I still vote for selling though.

    Ha!
    I’d fake a sticker if I could.
I just don’t want to hurt anyone.
Damn! Why did they stop making frames for these trucks. I would pay to make it right.
I don’t want to pass this problem to some other dude. I want to fix it.

Honestly another shop might not enforce this law in the same fashion. If the frame is solid, logic (…gasp) says it should be street legal.

Don’t put on a fake sticker. Why?
1.) It’s illegal. (Insert generic bs about violating TW code of conduct)
2.) I repeat, it is illegal. That means you are responsible if something goes wrong. Injury due to a crash? Guess who they are going after.

And from what I've heard....they have plenty of frames in some north states.....
at the dealers......its become big money to them......whether its warranty or not....

Its like the 5vz and 3rz engines.....no shortage of those either....

its the older trannys and rear differentials that some are very rare....

This is the dumbest thing ever. Can’t believe you can’t get a sticker because of that. So glad we don’t do this in CA.

It’s not all rainbows and sunshine in CA. Well, figuratively at least lol

CA smog requirements fail vehicles not up to a very high standard. This high standard by default pushes out older vehicles that might in fact fail inspection in other states. Plus given the climate, rust issues like the truck in question here are few and far between in CA.

I know. I can’t ask anyone to do anything illegal.
But damn, this is a beautiful truck, and I would love to see it back on the road.
    Where are there frames?

I had a 1997 Tacoma that was supercharged, urd 7th injector and a smaller pulley. Modded exhaust and had no issue smogging it. Maybe I’ve been lucky though :D

That frame could be repaired by a professional welder and look completely stock.

With two decades of taco people chewing rust......there are a bunch of options....
    many frames......many doner trucks......

What it boils down to.....how much do you want to pour into a twenty something year old truck....

If you want options.....may of came to the right place.....
    .....could even get sold here......

There's the bronco sport option......buy one....wait for it to catch fire.....
and then sue Ford for your retirement....

    Just some stuff...
This is very true. Plenty of people buy from out of state. Put some ads up in California. Somebody will probably grab it. When I sold my 2000 the first guy to hit me up was from Chicago.

West of the rockies.....they sell for a lot more.....
.....thats because they're lifted too high.....and too big of wheels for an import.....never designed for this...
    and they steadily get destroyed......

And the other Westies usually have long commutes.....putting high miles on em....eventually aging out....

one of these trying to keep up with a chevy or ford in the mountains is like highschool varsity playing NFL.....
