Am I missing something, or is there just no way to be able to lock the doors on my 2022 TRD Off Road 4x4 while they're open?

I just get a continuous alarm until I hit the unlock button or close the door(s).

That is a pretty common 'feature' on most vehicles. There some settings that can attempt to get rid of the bongs. Or, try tapping the rubber button on the door jamb.

Am I missing something?... Why would anyone want to lock the doors while they're open? :notsure: This place gets weirder by the day.

I don’t understand. I can get out of the vehicle press the lock button on the door and shut it. Locked. The only time I get a persistent buzzer is if I open a door before the vehicle is in park or shut off.

Do you have a smart key? If the key is in your pocket and you are in the vehicle you won’t be able to press the lock button on the door and have them stay locked

Not with the key fob lock button, but you can lock the doors with a door open using the lock button on the armrest

Its the never-ending cycle of engineers trying to protect us from ourselves, and us blaming the trucks for nannying us from our own stupidity. Unless we fuck up of course, because THEN it becomes the trucks fault for not protecting us enough.

If the doors are closed, then you can lock them with FOB.. If you prefer to lock manually while the doors are opened, use the button on the door panel on driver side.

You can use the key that came with the FOB, to lock manually but it can't be done when the doors are opened.

It is a security feature which in case some people forget the FOB that left in the vehicle... if you closed the door while it's locked, you are screwed unless you have extra key/FOB. In this case, The door won't lock until you get the FOB out of the vehicle but it can be locked if using a key.

    ^^^^^^^^^^^^ Nice summary.

I can't believe that the FMVSS actually says that power windows cannot work without the ignition being On.

The situation is that when out with the fam-damily and we arrive at the destination, I typically get out first and close my door... wifey poo is usually assisting the kiddo who has the attention span of a ball of yarn... I am just used to using the keyfob to lock, like on my wife's car and previous vehicles I have owned. The wife instinctively asks... "did you lock the doors?"

    "I tried"

    Thanks! Will adjust my ways!!!

Yup, I like my '17... I heard that the 18 and up have bunch of nanny crap in it. I prefer to open windows manually without starting the truck up.

That's my favorite time to lock the doors. Rather than start the potential fight of "we're here, get your shit together already!" I'll just close my door, touch the handle, and let the truck do the screaming. Then I get to play good-cop of "oh, sorry dear, I thought you were already out."

My old 1985 Honda Accord, otherwise known as a Middle-Class-Mercedes only allowed you to lock the drivers door with the key...
That way you wouldn't lock your keys in the car... in theory anyway.

It's a feature called idiot proof. Looking at your keys sitting on the driver seat of a locked truck is a helpless feeling that toyota doesn't want you to experience.

Since you have kiddos, have one of them touch the ribs on the driver side door handle. I bet they will get a kick out being able to lock the truck with their touch.

All doors closed and the Fob outside the truck of course.
