Can't Remove Starter

    I'm trying to get the nuts off the back of the starter. I had my truck in a mud pond over night (don't ask) and i think the starter is bad. truck runs fine, just needs a push start to get the engine running.

    these bolts are the pinnacle of inaccessible. anyone got any ideas on how to get them off? i just can't get to 'em.

    Wish I were closer I’d lend a hand, all the way in half moon bay though.. I just rebuilt the starter on my 3rd gen 4runner and it was definitely in the most difficult spot possible on the truck. Having a flex head socket wrench was the ticket for me..

    Yeah I've got one. I can only wiggle the ratchet an inch between the exhaust and drive shaft.

    I'm scared to take the exhaust manifold off and making this job a full blown surgical operation.

    BTW, you are better off to rebuild that OEM starter, rather than replace
    it with a crappy aftermarket one, IMHO

    I read your stuck thread. You should be good with rebuilding the solenoid
    and maybe replacing the brushes.
    Actually , the solenoid may just need to cleaned.
