One question the ABS is expensive why didn't Toyota just leave it off to save money if it's not worth while?

Snow driving is about tires and wiperblades. Abs will only work as good as traction from tires. I wasnt sure if I should buy 2wd or 4wd. I got prerunner and put $2oo(245/75/16) snows on rear i cant tell u how many 4wd i have passed in the snow for this reason!

Only the EU has mandated this. ABS must be on all new passenger vehicles manufactured since 2007.

And since your post was made on something that is internet capable, why not just check Google before you post up your "pretty sure".

No idea how you fit 200 tires on your rear axle, but no way any tire will ever make up for 4wd, stop making lies, I drive in snow 8 months of the year. I currently run 265 duratacs and if there's ice, I ain't going far in 2wd. Fwd car>rwd truck in snow or ice much easier to pull through than push.

 

ABS is a great feature, on dry pavement that the majority of people drive on. I'm glad my truck has it about 80% of the time. The other 20% it's a PITA and am glad I can turn it off. I'm sure there is statistical data somewhere that shows how many crashes have been avoided due to ABS (on dry pavement). Nobody on here dislikes that we have ABS, just the fact that we cant turn it off, like the VSCS, when we want to. Why did toyota allow us to turn off those safety features, and air bags, when we deem necessary, but not ABS?? A switch is a simple solution.

If you live in an area that does good road maintenance, then four wheel drive isn't required. I was unable to get around the unmaintained mountain roads with a 2wd dodge Ram 1500 with studded snows on all four corners and CHAINS on the back.

No salt here, just sand and the Odd snow plow on the MAIN streets, side roads are all hard as concrete ice that is so compact they'd probably tear up the road trying to plow it. All over the place on it in 2wd. Rutted ice in 2wd with open diffs has to be the worst driving condition I can think of and any highway driving on ice on a single lane highway is the worst in 2wd

 

there is no point in debating how much better 4wd is for accelerating and control (hence the reason 4wd exists), lets keep this on the topic at hand, stopping. other than downshifting a 4wd, there is really no difference IMO to the braking abilities of a 4wd to a 2wd.
