I'm done with the tent camping. The hammock is so much more comfortable and I never wake up with my back hurting. Easy to setup and tear down and my entire gear setup fit in the backpack you see on the tree. I take the ENO backpack and a small cooler and I have everything I need for the weekend.

Nighttime view from my bed with the twilights on.

    Morning espresso and cooler.

    4B3D28BC-41FC-4749-B3FD-BDEC400B5351.jpg

Down here I always get too hot in a tent. With the covection cooling from the hammock I throw my sleeping bag in it and when it gets below 70 and you get cool just pull the top of the sleeping bag over you. One day I’ll invest in a underquilt and top quilt but not a priority right now.

I had considered going to a cot and a bigger tent but decided to try out the hammocks I’ve had for years last year. I’m sold on hammock camping. We always just used them around camp to lounge in or use as seating. My tent stays at home now. I bought Jake a 3 person tent with better airflow this week. He liked it but also enjoys sleeping in his hammock also. The MSR I have is nice for cooler weather but summertime you don’t want to be in it at night with the rain fly on it.

I thought about a hammock tent but after investigating the typical group sites I saw there were to few trees.

I went with a 4 person Gazelle popup tent. Less than 2 minutes not including the guy lines. It has a screen top so without the rain fly you can see the stars. Even with the fly it's not air tight so in the colder temperatures of winter a heater will be required.

I also wanted some privacy for going to the bathroom and bathing with baby wipes if needed.

Since it's 8' + across and just me I'll add a 2' x 4' multi-height table and a folding chair and it should be perfect.

I'll also be able to use the table outside the tent for food prep and cooking, eating, etc.

In the pic with the truck in it you can see the bug net that completely surrounds the hammock. There's a zipper opening on the side of the hammock where you get it just like you normally sit down on the hammock to get in.

Here's a stock photo of it.

That's a cool looking tent! I like that table too!

I'm just going to get one of the small MSR stoves to cook on or may just cook over the campfire like I did this time. I like to travel small and lite now but not into the whole backpacking thing with being crazy about weight. You get in that mindset and it will cost you a small fortune. I used to need a 75L backpack for both of us to go camping with the tent sleeping bags and other crap. Now I'm down to this.

I'll shoot you a pm as to why I use ENO gear.

One thing I need to get better at is my camp kitchen in a small form. I'm thinking of going with the bigger MSR stove because of it's ability to be more diverse with heat control and able to simmer. Most of the small rocket stoves are made for boiling water quickly. I want to eat like a king with a gourmet meal I fix and make everyone else jealous of my dinner. I mainly just like good food though. lol

I mean one of the guys last night made a steak with a side of rice. He had the stuff in his box to be able to make bread, gravy or whatever you want in there. That's what I'm talking about!
