How's it going todtay? I'm worried about the house later this weekend when it's gets cold. What should I do?

Cover your hose bibs. I think Home Depot has some left, selling out fast.

 

I got em wrapped with old shirt then one of those things too. Just wondering if people still 'drip' the faucets or anything.

You can leave the spigot dripping a little bit . How long is it going to be cold down there ?

 

I shut mine off and cover them. If you have a sink in a non heated garage, I’d let that drip.

I wrap mine loosely in old towels and rags (trapped air is a great insulator). If there is rain coming, wrap the towels with a plastic garbage bag, cut it down one side, wrap if around the pipe/towels and add your favorite color of duct tape. If it is getting real cold, I take a box/container of some sort and put it over the pipe/bib, then get an incandescent light/bulb of some sort and put it in the box. Incandescent only, as LEDs do not heat up

BTW, dripping may not work well, as dripping lowers the water pressure in the pipe and that can cause freezing to happen quicker.

 

Stock up on beer.

 

Buy a 100’ tarp and cover the entire house, better safe than sorry.

 

How about one of those house tents for the whole-house bug fumigators?

Then open the windows and make the building envelope larger.

 

One other method I've heard from people, but never done myself. If you are really concerned, shut the water off at the house entry point, then open the taps/toilets/wash machine through the house and drain the lines.

BTW, interesting storm. Over here it's 45 degrees, raining and lightning/thundering. A bit cold for lightning I would have thought.
