    Best pie I had was my grandma's cherry pie. No, jokes here guys even though I might regret this one. She was around 100yo and made 100% from scratch. She had trouble seeing, legally blind, so it didn't present well, ya know perfect looking crust an all. But damn it was good, fuck the looks. (Oh man so many jokes could go here, don't get me started.) The cherries even still had the pits in them. Nothin today can even compare to it. The filling you can buy in the store just doesn't even hold water.

    That's the way my grandfather taught me to make mine. My mother in law can make it with butter, but I've never been able to get it right.

    I can get a decent crust with butter, but not as good as lard. Ice water is important though. Not just cold, but ice cold.
