I heard that was a major problem with medics now a days cause people are getting so huge they don't even have stretchers that they can fit on anymore.

 

Ours are rated at 700 lbs.

 

Jesus. When I was in school to be an emt it was an issue, but this was like 2005 I think.

 

They keep sitting and they keep eating.

 

We used to have one that 2 ambulances were dispatched to so there would be someone there to help the crew. Problems of having a volunteer fire dept. They may show up or they may not for that plus they may be at work and can't come.

 

Y'all have manual lift stretchers still?...

 

This is kind of related by a stupid calls and I know you guys get a lot of them too. When I'm at work I listen to the local police, fire, emt monitor. The other night the police were called because a boys 13 year old brother came into his bedroom and took his tv and put it into his bedroom. So police was called because it caused a disturbance! So I thought about this. First of all we were lucky that we had one tv in the house when I was a kid. Second of all if my brother did something I didn't like we just beat each other's ass. Then dad had final say and would beat both our asses! WTF is wrong with these people.

 

Yup. When I first started here the backup trucks had two man stretchers on them. The ones that you had to lower to the ground and then get on both sides and lift everything up to put it in the truck instead of putting the wheels on the back and only lifting one end. That sucked. I was so happy when those got replaced with the big trucks.

 

The way America is headed with this entitled lifestyle. They can't handle it so call someone else that can for them. They want to have kids but don't want to be parents, they want to be friends with their kids and then wonder why they won't listen to them. I'm not going to say any further into it to avoid being political.

 

They just got big trucks here. Sterlings, used, but big. Still use some fords and dodges though.

 

We've run International 4300's here since I've been here. They said they just ordered a new truck and went with a F450. I don't see that working out very well but International has gone to shit with the regen system's on them. My suggestion was to try a Hino (Toyota) because they came fully loaded (Systems management) and would be under warranty for the entire time they are in front line service. They have towing included in the price for the entire warranty period. Any towing or repair work would pay for the extra costs of the trucks alone. Hino also doesn't use regen at all it's all DEF fluid only. But of course I don't know shit and my say so doesn't matter. I believe it's a bad idea to go away from the medium duty trucks because we went to these from that for a reason. Now we're going backwards. We carry a lot of equipment that most EMS departments don't carry because we do extrication ourselves. They were also talking about remounting one of the big boxes on the F450 chassis. Sounds like a recipe for disaster to me but I'm just a medic on the truck. Well see where this goes.
