It was a camping trip for the cub scouts. The cavern was really cool. When we went in the first time we did a lantern tour. No lights inside other than the 15 lanterns we were carrying. Kinda puts it in the perspective of how it was when discovered with a torch and you can’t see the magnitude of how big it really is. That room was the size of a football field. Here a pic in the other direction.

    4D71A5F7-97CF-4342-B119-8984C4DCFDAB.jpg

Interesting fact about it. They made gun powder during the civil war in there. The hopper is kinda left center of you blow the pic up. There’s a trough under it that the filtered soil and mag caltrate was run into. Then they had a metal pot they boiled the water out of it to get 70% of the mix for the gun powder.

Behind the first pic it continues on and the stalactites are so low you have to duck down or just go around them. Behind that is a waterfall then you go up behind the waterfall and go down the other way to a 30 foot drop off. Was a really cool cave.

In the 1920’s they made moonshine down in the cave. Haha

There was an old still in there with the wooden thumper too.

I got interested in caves after one of my Oil Patch Geologists showed me a map of the underground Milk River system. Bigger than the Mississippi, but all underground. Then there was my experience with Museum people caving. What a once in a lifetime trip. Those caves aren't known to the public & that's a good thing. Took millions of years for stuff to get that way down there & if you didn't know what you were doing, it could be destroyed in an instant. The last one we visited actually "breathed" at the entrance. Like a whole different world down there. Pegs the ultra cool meter.

I really like the underwater one's. Been diving in quite a few in Florida. All my pics are on film though and all video was done on Video 8 tapes. Need to get them converted over some time.

@FastEddy59 I've got a video of one in Florida you'd probably be interested in. Huge cave system underwater. Video shows how they mapped it out with scooters that had mappers on the front of them.

Don't wait too long. My wife's late uncle traveled the world in his job & took lotsa super 8's. The film was so old it became brittle & the copying tech. had a Hellava time doing it. Said a lot of the film wouldn't survive another attempt.
