Naked as of right now but would like to get a tri-fold tonneau at some point in the near future.

I love my Snugtop shell. It keeps all my stuff dry, including me if I have to sleep back there. Western Washington is a rainy place.

Got a venyl solf cover. It is pretty neat, and does the job, but if I was doing it again, I would have picked one of those solid tri-fold covers.

Dr. Sleep, If you remove the Fold-a cover are the rails held in place with 3m tape or clamps?

Ya I don't like caps either. I find it makes the truck look like a poorly proportioned SUV.

A hard tri-fold tonneau is really the best as it still allows you to use your bed, which a tilting hard tonneau doesn't. (For anything taller than a box I mean)

I just run mine naked as I don't want to pay for a tonneau.

I have an undercover but I am developing cap envy. I just can't wrap my arms around $1500 for a Fiberglas shell. If I find a used one for $600 I am all over it. My Undercover is the best. Light stong and easily removed and stored if needed. Most of the time I can leave it up with a higher load. The hydraulic pistons are stong.

i voted for soft tonneau. I have an access tonneausport and it is awesome. keeps things dry and out of sight but rolls up in about 3 seconds leaving the whole bed open. I am however getting rid of it and putting on a leer camper shell for extra cargo space. I hope i like it

i have a tri fold tonneau. Its great, easy to install (no drilling, litterally just bolts on) keeps things dry inside the bed, saves on gas. If you have a higher load in the back the soft tonneau has a little bit of stretch so you can still close it down and not have to worry so much about the wind. all in all love it

Both really. You can fold the cover up and the last layered piece is still bolted to the bed, but the rails themselves are held on with 3M tape. But it's very sturdy.

Check out here for more info: http://www.steffensautomotive.com/products/covers/

Somewhere on the site you can download the installation instructions that give a good idea of how it all installs/works.

I had a hard fiberglass tonneau on my last truck. It held up well over 12 years, but it did limit what I could pick up and move. I didn't (and still don't) have to room to remove it for large jobs requiring the bed, so if I did have to put large things in the bed I had to leave it open and tie it off. I never felt comfortable doing this because I was afraid I would damage the struts or warp the sides the the bed where the tonneau rails were clamped down. With our new Tacoma we opted to get the hard folding tonneau that Toyota Canada carries (which is an Extang). It folds back enough that you can carry larger items, and if need be come right off. It's footprint is small to be stored and weighs only about 50 lbs.

Well all options of course have their advantages and I have tried them all. For me the hard cap works best for lockable space and safe transport of the dogs.

^ ditto on the dogs thing. The lockable part is debatable, my buddy had all his stuff stolen out of his locked shell. Pry bars are a cheap way to open anything! But for overall lockability, yes it is nice.

I really like my diamondback cover.

The forward and rear flip up panels allow me easy access while keeping everything else covered. I have direct access to items in the front (recovery gear) without exposing or removing everything in the back of the bed. I can haul on top of the cover. Easily supports my weight while I stand on top of it to load our tentcots into the basket.

I can fold back and strap down or completely remove a panel(s) if I need to haul something larger. Completely removing the cover is a single person job that takes minutes. I can store the 3 panels more easily than a cap. It clamps to the rails so it requires zero mods to the truck.

I don't worry about scratches and such since it is diamond plate. When I am out in the desert it is a work surface. It locks so it keeps my gear safe.

This is the only picture I have with the panels open.
