I'm having a hard time deciding and I know it's all what I plan on doing with it , I don't haul massive things but I live in Vancouver bc where is all rain all the time , I like the look of both ,and price isn't the issue I move
Mainly , strollers , groceries , snowboards and just your general craps

Cap - I need to use the bed for anything taller than the bedside, ever.

Tonneau - I don't really use my bed for anything but groceries or golf clubs.

I have a Pace Edwards Switchblade that should be delivered any day now. Im excited to get it installed.

The Switchblade is designed for shorter bed trucks. The canister takes up less room in the bed, and is removable very quickly. The Jackrabbit has a longer warrenty, and a fancier sounding "ArmorTek". I was planning on getting the Jackrabbit because of the option for the explorer rails so I could install Thule bars over the cover. However, that is not a option on the Tacoma, just full size trucks. I chose to go with the much cheaper Switchblade, as my friend has one I could check out, and he has been very happy with it.

    IMO caps are more useful.

    And they look badass

i had a soft tonneau cover, it was ok at best, then it got a hole in it wheeling, fixed that easy enough.. a hard cover would look nice but be completely useless, had that on previous pickup, nothing fit back there it seemed with that stupid hard cover except groceries. the cap will look great and be functional, if you ever need to put something that doesn't fit it might be worth to just rent a pickup for a couple hrs at that point. or there is always that monkey in the middle soft topper foldable cap.

To present an opposing opinion here, I'm not a fan of solid caps. I don't really enjoy the look or the bulkiness, and I think a soft canopy will do the same job with much less investment and the ability to drop it down in minutes.

If you go tonneau, they're easily removable if you need to haul bigger things, but then you lose your weather protection.

At the end of the day, it's all about what you're going to use it for! We can all give your two cents, but you have to make that call.

Well that is exactly my point I know that it all comes down to my needs I'm looking for feed back on either a hard canopy ,not soft I'm not interested in them or a metal roll up tonneau cover and what the pros and cons of each our so I can weigh out my decision more so I can narrow in on what I'm going to buy before I shell out thousands of dollars and possibly buy some thing I'm unhappy with kind of like me saying I live in Vancouver and it rains 9 out of 12 months here and how useless a soft canopy would be for my needs because it would defeat the purpose and all my shit would be soaked

    1) Longest run-on sentence ever.

    2) I literally gave you pros and cons of a tonneau in my post. You even quoted it.

    3) A soft canopy isn't going to 'soak your shit'.

    4) I offered my opinion. I can tell you didn't like it.

    5) Your attitude will surely assist in getting more opinions.

Too many numbers. Best of luck!

Please troll my thread I can't express how much I'll appreciate it later on because your opinion on something I didn't even ask about it so valuable to me and my extensive research on soft top canopies

I have an undercover SE hard tonneau on my Taco. I really like how it looks and I like the security it provides if I have to leave anything back there, but lately it has proven to be a pain in the ass when I have to haul something taller than the bedsides. I'm looking for a used cap but finding the right color used is proving to be a challenge, so here in the next month or two I am going to sell the Undercover SE and buy a shell. With windoors and the cab height that is going to prove much more useful than the cover.

After alot of thought I'm thinking I'm gonna do either a roll and lock or pace Edwards , I like the fact you can't see what's inside the bed and it's easy to remove and store and it's half the price of a cap, and I can still use my truck as a truck

There you have it, folks. I'm too late to swing an opinion, but I'd like to X2 about the run on sentence :anonymous:

I plan on putting one of these on my 2015 TRD Sport. I think they look really good and not a problem taking them off if you need to hall anything big. They only weight like 60 lbs. It all depends on your needs. If you have some where in your garage to hang it. Makes it easy.

The Undercover SE looks good on our trucks. Mine was sold a couple of weeks ago. If all goes well my new cap will be delivered tomorrow.

You won't regret it... I had both but I prefer the cap 95% of the time because it makes the bed more functional. I have a baby and a dog so I needed the room without getting a SUV. However I will say I think it looks better without one but it doesn't look terrible with one.

Nick, I think you will be very happy with the Leer.

I have an ARE but would be just as happy with a Leer.

Make sure they seal the front corners good. I have a new 100xr that leaks in the front corners that they haven't been able to seal yet. Leer tells the dealer that some Tacomas can't be sealed. There are several threads here telling what members did to get their leaks fixed. I suggest that you take a look and make sure that the installer considers these things when installing your new cap. Good luck. Paint match and overall fit is great.
