I'm digging the way the truck looks these days.

I don't actually remember the last time I saw the truck clean...

My family wanted to see what this tent thing was all about, so I opened it up while the temps weren't abysmal.

I think I'm going to pull the trigger on those rims or these Trying to think of what tires to go with, what size are your bfgs? And are you running wheel spacers??

    The 17s? Do it.

I've got 265/70r17 on there now, I'm happier with the size than I thought I would be. Alignment is good, and no rubbing finally. I didn't want to tub for 33s...

I've got Spidertrax 1.25" spacers, I'd like to go to 1.5" or 2" some day, but low priority.

Yeah the 17s, So the 265 they measure something like 31"? I'm having a ton of trouble finding a tire around a 33" with a 17" rim that's not e rated..

For sure... I know I've seen a few C range tires in the 275 or 285 flavor, but don't recall what they were. The 265's measure out to about 31", all of my 285's that I've had measured out to about 32" new. Ultimately I'd like to get the 34x10.5 KO2's :D

That would be way slick, I love the tall and skinny!! Do you think I'd had a problem running those 17" rims without spacers? I kind of want to ditch my 1-1/4" ones..

Have you read about those 34x10.40? Way undersized. Reports were coming in of them being smaller than a 255/85 last I read.

I'd guess if you went with 255 or 265 tires, you'd probably be fine to ditch the spacers, because these wheels have OEM offset; at that point you'll be able to fit as wide of a tire as anyone else can manage on stock wheels without spacers. You'll just get the derpy look of a lifted truck without wider wheel spacing ;)

I haven't really looked into it at all, but that's really disappointing. The price is already a bit of a deterrent, kind of astronomical for what you're getting compared to the pricing on sizes around it.

Let's be fair, what are the chances I'll actually stick to that idea, anyway?

    Updates.

New bumper, changed some dimensions of stuff, but mostly wanted to add a piece of 2x2 1/4" tube to reinforce the bumper for towing, as well as relocate the spare to the bed, and have the ability to put two bikes on the swingout. So rather than modding the other one, I decided to start from scratch.

    zV86BKTxL6dAJ_Ltqzq_RlCzw9dBXebrDVtimG9v_501f7511949c7093247cd3cfe30918b75c79c11b.jpg

Man, I need to paint the tailgate.

    And repaint the doors/fenders/hood.

    7mydDRV2WLZivotiniVV0mDo_5ql5udv1y6iYCpy_118d8065fc52874aa3e4479f456a766702a857b0.jpg

I debated for a long time what to do with the spare. Put it on the floor? Stand it up (it doesn't fit)? I finally decided the best option would be to put it up high, so it doesn't take up bed space if I need to carry long stuff. Then I wanted to be able to stash the containers somewhere without having them rattle and roll around, but also not have the brackets eat into cargo space too much when not in use.

The solution I came up with was simple and straightforward, two pieces of 24" long 3x2 angle, set apart just far enough for the bins to slide into with ease. They butt into the front of the bed, and then I used a rubber bungee across the front to keep them in place. Sometimes the simplest solution is the way to go... I had grand plans of draw latches and other crap, but this does the trick nicely.

I've got space on the front passenger side for a 7-gallon water jug and a 12v pump that'll run a line out to a Front Runner tap on the back of the bed rack for drinking and cooking.

Yes I know the ratchet strap isn't through the hole. It's too long, I'm gonna fix that later.

Not bad for a poorly thought out project.

Two questions about the new rear bumper:

    1. Will you be adding provisions to hook safety chains up for towing?
    2. How will you be attaching the two bikes to the swingout? If I recall correctly you had adapted some Thule trays to an upsloped design. Sticking with that configuration?

I'm either going to drill two 1" holes in the bottom of the channel for hooks, or weld on a loop for the chains to the receiver itself. I'm leaning toward the former, since it's less of a hassle (except for the drilling two holes in 1/4" plate).

I stopped using that thing a while ago, but my plan for this is to get the folding mech for a Thule T2 rack and attach it to the swingout, which would allow the rack to fold up and out of the way, and requires very little creating of any parts... even though it costs $190.

Love that idea for your spare. It's funny because I've been agonizing over where to keep mine as well. I really don't want the weight of a 315 hanging off the ass end of the weakest part of my frame.

I like your solution because it preserves bed space and also allows the spare to sit right over the rear axle. Very nice!

Thanks! I'm pretty happy with it so far. My biggest complaint is kind of a given... kinda difficult to see :anonymous:, but I'm used to not being able to see right behind me anyway, this just limits the blind spot check area a little more for backing into parking spots and such. It's nothing compared to driving around with a Softopper anyhow, ha!

I think it's a great option to the other solutions I've seen, especially with bigger tires. Easy enough to build and try out.

Ill definitely be keeping an eye on this! I'm running a bed rack and RTT, so fabbing a mount to interface with the bed rails would be pretty simple.
