I think he is leaving it white :) just a few touch up spots.

By the way I am disappointed in this, hurts my feelings a little to see the gold go...

I know you're disappointed, John, but it wasn't gonna be gold anymore in any scenario :) The white on this cab is in such great shape, and it's grown on me since it's been up on the chassis, I'm gonna stick with it. If I change my mind later down the road, I'll likely still have the desert storm CARC paint sitting around.

Gonna try to get some paint mixed up in town so I can shoot the fenders, hood and doors Monday. I'd like to get the front end 100% by end of day Tuesday if possible.

I've got some ideas rolling around for a color scheme that'll tie it together nicely without being overbearingly white with the M416-replica bed (black fenders, rack, bumpers, sliders, etc., should look clean)

In the meantime, my replica CARC Desert Storm tan paint came, and now that I'm not using that, it doesn't make sense to return it (between shipping lost here, shipping lost there, I'd get like $15 back), so if anyone wants a can of paint, let me know - let's work out a deal.

Yesterday (I didn't get any pictures) I got the engine bay 100% back to factory spec, I didn't put my relay panel back in yet, but I did take a minute to drill a nice big hole for the cabling to pass through the firewall, and used one of the old drain plugs from the tan body to keep it mostly sealed. I'll get around to that later. I also got the dash entirely back together, carpet in, and will start on the headliner and remaining trim this morning.

I believe the only things remaining to do that aren't interior prettyfying things, are bleed brakes/clutch, and connect fuel lines, then battery. One thing I overlooked, is the original fuel line on the original body used a flex line that slid over the end and secured with a little clip dingus... the donor cab had fuel lines already on it - which I left - and the main line uses a nut and flared end.. not sure what to do on that. There's also one line on the old cab that was 10" longer, this isn't the case on the donor cab, I'm sure I can just get a longer flex line and call it a day as far as that goes.

And finally: I'm going to see if I can get some 045 paint mixed up for me locally to spray the doors, fenders, and hood. If possible I want to paint on Monday.

Got a head start on designing the rear bumper... Probably going to get something mocked up on the M416 box tonight as well to kind of dial in dimensions.

Basically I wanted to come up with something that'd be lighter weight than the tube-based design I've got right now, and would work well with the way the M416 box will integrate onto the truck with a flatbed. This also reflects some of the details from the front bumper nicely for continuity front-to-back, as well as beefs up the hinge mount and located it almost directly on the bumper's mount itself, which will help stiffen things up a bit - this design could easily be adapted to full-width as well, however some of the angles on the side would change slightly to keep the back of the bumper a little tighter to the truck bed (if anyone were to, say, give me money...to build...one). As far as overall kind of shape - I took some inspiration from companies like Poison Spyder and JCR Offroad for their Wrangler front bumpers...

    taco%2520brawler%25203_edeb7766a77bd96806173f45cb34069d81721ec6.png

I didn't reflect this in the sketch, but this will likely utilize the same dual-sheer mount that I have currently, possibly just bolted straight to the side of the bumper, though, for a simpler setup.
    taco%2520brawler%2520hinge_cc15ed9575c3d3ec0a54b7acea0af4a113c43e2d.png

And the latch, will be a straight-pull De-Sta-Co latch, rather than a 90* bend, just simpler that way. (didn't draw this out because that's too much work, you can use your imaginations)
    taco%2520brawler%2520latch_992835f643412f1de451a6f2c56d34b7684e7d91.png

    :taco:

I'll likely do something like what Poison Spyder offers for their JK swingout bumpers, which is a small tierod dingus to allow the tire carrier to pull the tailgate open (the new bed will have a side-hinged tailgate).

    Thoughts?

    *edit:
I don't really foresee wanting to use a hitch rack again in the future once I get bike racks up on top of the box, but given the possibility of that need arising, I have this idea that would basically be a light-duty towing/hauling bolt-on addition, not in the way all the time when it's not needed, but can easily be bolted to the bottom of the winch plate for occasional use.

Sorry I hadn't responded to this, this last week kind of sucked, no energy at the end of any day to be on the computer.

I can and have done engagement photos, as well as weddings, but I don't often do portrait sessions, and being an introvert I'm not all that great at directing people. You've reminded me I need to update my website, I've done a few sessions and other things since I last updated it.

Recap of the week... Not a whole lot went according to plan, problems kept popping up, all of which were annoying and/or expensive (like paint).

I took the opportunity of door apartism to tint the windows, got some 20% film from O'Reilly's, then had to go buy more, because I overcut the first piece. So now I have extra, I could up the tint on the rears a little more for more privacy back there, might just leave it.
    IMG_20141216_132515_6727728c90ab194bd5b12eb415849aaecbb8915d.jpg

Got everything up and running, took it for a test drive.
    IMG_20141215_123547_f405ae438603b706bdef3deb90fbaacf2ff2a717.jpg

Got all the pieces sanded down and primed, here they are ready for paint.
    IMG_20141216_161958_a3efe3bcfc0f8411a771ca45c8364a5fc2ed2e45.jpg

Sprayed them down. The first paint we tried, I used the wrong reducer, killed a quart of auto paint. The second quart, I bought the correct reducer, went a lot smoother. However I should have had 2 quarts mixed to spray, 1 didn't quite cover. I'm ok with it, because the color is wrong, so I'll be going back through and repainting all the pieces when I can.

Got the bumpers on today, the driver's side door panel replaced, and took it for an alignment, and drove it home.

    Ok cool!

I will be up there this summer with my fiancé and my Tacoma, we wanted photos in the mountains, because mountain are awesome. I was also trying to find a photographer that would be willing to go into the mountains for some cool shots. We are moving to Denver in a year for her job, and going up this summer to look at living arrangements / vacation and figured we could knock out multiple stones with one bird.

Texas is pretty but, nothing like Colorado.

I'll message you more about a shoot, with both of us having rigs, I feel like we could get to some cool locations for a shoot.

Haven't began anything for the bed just yet, after getting the truck back up and running, between holidays and pulling mad hours at work for understaffed days and inventory, today has been my first proper decompression day from the last month.

The rear bumper sold, and I dropped it off in Boulder on Saturday, I was holding off using any money from that until it was out of my possession, now that it is, I'll be able to start planning on moving forward. I need to talk with my dad about how much material I need to buy, and figure out what material I want to use, as well as where to source it. There's a type of plywood called MDO, that's specifically developed for outdoor and sign applications, I'm considering that as it's more waterproof than typical plywood options.

Another thing I'm exploring is bedlining the whole thing, inside and out. If I do this, I believe I can skimp on the material a little, as the bedliner forms an impenetrable barrier to moisture. It's pricy, but could very well be worth it. Also in line with that consideration, is rather than repainting the miscolored parts... just scuffing them and throwing liner on everything. Not sure about white bedliner though...

Anyway, I'll probably start getting some progress made throughout this month. I'd like to get the new rear bumper built before long, I don't like not having a bumper on when driving around in shitty weather.. even though I don't care what happens to the bed at this point, still don't want to get rear ended without protection of any sort (especially since the bottom of the tailgate is about the same height as most folks hoods).

Sweet dude, I've used mdo before, it should work fine. The thing with beadliner too is it's very easy to touch up, awesome man, keep me posted uve got me thinking of going this route...

I think for my purposes with this truck, it'll be really nice to have something like this, I don't often carry tall objects in the back, nor do I need the width outside the wheel wells, since it's a hassle to carry a 4x8 sheet anyway (and with tire carrier, impossible). I figure this way, it'll be a dialed utilitarian setup that I can add to however I want or need on the outside.

Building a flatbed base, to which the box will bolt. I haven't made up my mind just yet if I'm going to use some sort of poly bushing between the flatbed and the frame, in hopes of giving frame flex a way not to transfer directly into the box. I'll be welding on my frame stiffeners on the back around that time anyway, so I know that'll help with frame flex/twisting.

Also not sure where to find body bushings that aren't sold in full sets, or aren't as thick.
