A few hours ago I crashed my beloved 2006 Tacoma into a boulder. I was on a gravel road going about 15 mph in the ice and fog when I lost it going around a corner. The car slid into a very large boulder, deploying the air bags and scaring the hell out of me. A lot of the interior stuff has come loose (cup holders ext.) but nothing that concerns me. The exterior damage does however make me cringe. The front bumper fell off and the radiator is leaking. I was able to drive it home without too much issue. Times are tough and I am worried I won't be able to afford the repairs. Has anyone had a similar accident and what they had to pay for it? I'm no mechanic and have no clue what could be wrong and the insurance company won't look at it until Monday and I don't think I'll be able to sleep until I know what kind of damage I did.

    Gonna be spendy.

The bags went off often means that the insurance company will total the truck. I say often, because it is not 100%. Air bag replacement is expensive. Insurance companies do not like to put these type of vehicles back on the road fearing that the reapaired air bags will not deploy in the next accident.

I'm betting the repair will exceed 80% of the value.

I rebuild these trucks and I buy them wrecked. Many times I get supprised that the insurance companies want tw repair the vehicle instead of just totalling it.

There is a lot of damage showing in your pic, be prepared for the worse.

    Good luck

    KO

15 MPH did all that damage? I am assuming that you have insurance by what you said so why are you worried?

Me thinks you may have under estimated your speed. Air bag deployment requires a lot of impact force, which you had. That damage will be expensive. Do you not have full coverage on the truck? If you do, all you'll pay is the deductible.

BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
I hope engine coolant isn't mixed with the tranny fluid. If you drove it home, that's a good sign.

You got insurance....it looks like a lot more than 15MPH impact...

The only thing you may have to worry about is your insurance coverage, depending on how they look at an off road accident...

The stock bumpers on these trucks are a joke...

Definitely in the $1000's for repair....from what I see, your frame should be okay....the bags are gonna set you back about a grand, plus the other parts and labor...steering wheel, dash, bumper, radiator, and the hidden stuff...

I disengage the passenger bag during normal use, and if someone is riding in the passenger seat I give them the option...that side can really throw some force when activated, my previous 2000 had a cracked windshield from the cover when it deployed....

Good Luck with the insurance man....

Given the OP's concern, it suggests he may not have the full coverage.

If that was 15 MPH, these are disposable trucks.

Dude.... Just relax. Everyone goes thru these sorts of things. Luckily, nobody was hurt.

Let the insurance company look at it and see what they say about it. I don't know your truck...... but..... the worst case scenario, is they TOTAL the truck.

From there - its a matter of financials. If it is totaled..... Can you buy it back from the insurance company and for how much? How much would it take to get it back on the road (reconstructed title and legally registered and drivable on the road)?? And/or part it out to recoop in $$.

If it is NOT totaled.... Let the insurance do their thing. Get it fixed. You've paid good money for insurance, you should take advantage of it.

    Let's hope its not totaled.

Is there a lien on the truck - may limit your ability to make decisions on how or what you do with the truck.

    Hella stuff
    2006 AC maybe worth $15k ?
These trucks return a lot at auction, maybe 50% ACV, so this means the ins co can put around $7500 into in to fix it. I dunno buddy, it looks borderline. Unless the adjuster comes out and totals it out on the spot, it will prob need to go to a shop and torn down.
I'm guessing it's going to be totaled. Sorry bro

Than why say the insurance company is going to look at it on Monday? They would not look at it unless it was insured.

I had an accident also on my way to Iowa to my in-laws. At the body shop already. Cost $1500. With $500 deductible.

    Yeah, I know that.

Why is he concerned about what it will cost then????? Read his entire post.

He may not fully understand how his insurance policy works.

    Any word yet?

Most of the front end stuff can be done by you if you are handy with a wrench and BFH, the interior airbag fix might be best left to people that do it for a living...

I suspect your damage could reach $4000 or more...

If you had full coverage, you should be good to go except for the deductible...

Will insurance cover off road accidents? Is there a way to get that coverage? I don't even think it's an option with mine.

If I were an insurance company I wouldn't pay for someone's risky hobby accidents unless they were paying a premium monthly rate and had a high deductible...
