Nope, you're wrong Sterdog, check the towing section there's guys towing 26 foot long travel trailers with "no problems".

Yes, I completely understand that. But those crossovers cannot do real off-roading and towing like the Runner and Taco. Yet pickups still sell like hot cakes, even though you don't need the bed, and BOFs do not.... get my point?

I need the bed. I must be a dying breed lol. My wife didn't need a bed. However, the F150 always has better pricing than the Expedition.

The Soccer Mom crossover crap is the best swiss army knife vehicle for most people that doesn't yet carry the anti van stigma.

IMHO the Tacoma can do more than the 4Runner on road. Home depot runs, taking home the new big screen, moving friends, etc etc.

The Tacoma is basically a slightly better swiss army knife for the average person.

My FJC is the last of the fun BOF SUV from Toyota that's available with manual transmission within North America.

The day that no one else offers a manual BOF recreational offroader will be a very sad day for some of us.

Mark my words, Toyota will never change the 4R from BOF. They are loving that it's the only one left in that range...just like they loved the Taco being the only small truck for so many years. I am surprised Nissan discontinued the Xterra....you see so many...it will be back.

wow, now we are really getting off topic lol

If the Titan XD flops I would expect Nissan to totally exit the BOF market in North America. I have a feeling that's why we see no real news on the new Frontier coming here. They are waiting to see if the Titan can make some money, and if it can't, they'll scrap the entire platform it supports over here.

I think the opposite (what else is new, lol) , as far as swiss army knife for an average person....

home depot runs with a Runner work better than a taco 90% of the time. and you can fit a full family and dog in there in any weather...leave your tools in the back (which is huge) and it locks up nicely.... and you can tow your boat, hit the trails, etc. blast through potholes and flooded streets.... what can you do in a Taco that you can't in a 4R besides loads of mulch or big shrubs? Taco is easier for plywood and drywall, but can be done in the Runner pretty easily too.

Well we do live in a pickup truck country, which doesn't help when Chevy is brainwashing the masses by those Colorado commercials telling them that a man drives a pickup truck and anyone who drives anything but is a sissy.......instead of buying what you really need and just not giving a fuck about what other people think of them.

And also that pickup sells better than SUVs due to overall lower cost of entry and ownership (when you compare a Tacoma to a 4Runner for example).

Not sure if you are joking, but I didn't enjoy towing 21 feet of light TT with the Tacoma. I'm thinking that's way more about jamming a round peg in a square hole rather than finding the right peg for the job.

I think you got it the other way around....trying to jam a square peg in a round hole.

Anyway, back to our regular programming :)

I can't fit plywood, drywall, large tools, etc etc in the 4Runner. That was my point. What you describe is more using your truck for mall shopping rather than large bulky materials, which even something like a Ford Explorer would be better at than a 4Runner.

On that note that's what probably hurts the 4Runner the most. There is only a certain number of people that need to blast through pot holes, run a bit offroad, and dare to tread a flooded road. While it is better in the situation you described, 99% of buyers wouldn't have even close to the same wants from an SUV. Most SUV buyers want AWD for slush/snow, lots of room for people/dogs, and good mpgs. The unibody rules at that. The Tacoma is a truck, so people buying in that market aren't demanding the same mpgs or room, which plays well for the Tacoma.

My point was it would fit, but if you don't want it to turn all over the place....

That's probably true, especially the more luxuriously trimmed trucks command a much higher premium and profit margin. Ford with its F-150 line got this down to a science.

lmao...it's called marketing...you don't need CocaCola either (it's shit for you body) but they advertise the hell out of it. Every truck ad is geared toward being a "man!" If anything the Colorado commercials made fun of that by adding a slightly sarcastic tone to it. "Men with beards drive trucks." It's funny...great ad.

Look at Toyota...cruising the hot chick with the small tits in the black bikini all over the desert on an quad! Marketing is fun... and yes, stupid!

"Brainwashing!" LOL... that killed me. Come on, "Keep it wild," man. :)

It's marketing to us adults, but what about those 15-16 year old kids who don't know any better?

I see your point but that doesn't make mine invalid.

I also drink Coco Cola knowing that it's bad for me, but that's a choice I made without the help of ads and commercials. The younguns however, are not mature enough yet to recognize such things like marketing yet they are a "sponge" absorbing all these shit on TV which may very well influence their future consumption, for better or worse.

    Yup.

Here's a good example though. I just took a course that said the average 200 lbs male can jump 10 feet vertically down without injury. Now, would you want to jump off a 10 foot ledge one time a day if you had too, or fifty times a day? Would everyone you know around 200 lbs make that jump safely all the time? What about if the landing area is small or rocky? Would you still want to do the jump?

It's the same with towing. Just because a Tacoma can tow 6000 lbs worth of 26 foot trailer doesn't mean it's a good idea for everyone.
