"mall shopping" f&ck off, hahha :).... you said average guy. if you are a drywall guy or framer fine....but why do you think most contractors, and all plumbers and electricians, use vans and closed in trucks?!

btw, the 4R isn't hurt...not one bit....that's an assumption...Go look at the sales numbers...they a have a nice niche, big time, people love their Runners. They can't keep them on the lots.

No arguments from me. I fully support 99% of what you said here in TW, plus I know BlueT hates anyone who agrees with you, which makes me happy.

I do my own renovations :notsure:. I see the utility of a truck. You don't do the same things, so you don't.

BTW I'm not saying the 4Runner is hurting. I'm saying the reason the 4Runner doesn't get the same sales as the CUV's is because, for the type of tasks you described minus shit kicking it, a CUV is better suited for the job and more comfortable to drive around in daily.

I get that.... crossovers, the new station wagons, are hot sellers and pretty useful, but that wasn't my point. Most (or at least many)Taco owners (not you) don't need the bed and would be better served in a Runner, but will choose a pickup for the image, because the true SUV segment has gotten destroyed with the water down crossover take-over.

"I see the utility of a truck. You don't do the same things, so you don't." How do you know what I do or don't do? I too see the utility of a truck...I also see the utility of a full size van...I also know that you can do a lot with a true SUV, as far as renovations and construction work.... Crossovers not so much, cause you can't really pull a trailer or customize the roof racks for heavy equipment.

I think now you're just arguing for the sake of arguing. There really is no right or wrong answer here. You buy what you want/need because it's your money. No need to completely justify why you choose what you buy.

Just want to add that the 4Runner TRD Pro looks badass. If it's available with manual I'd totally buy it over the Tacoma.

Anyway I'm out, got important things to do.

BTW here's a good example of what I meant. The Explorer was all but dead in 2010 BOF and selling almost the same units as the 4Runner, now it outsells the 4Runner because it's tuned in better to the average buyer:

    4Runner sales:
    2011 44,316[23]
    2012 48,755[23]
    2013 51,625[24]
    2014 76,906[25]

    Explorer sales:
    2011[78] 135,179
    2012[79] 158,344
    2013[80] 178,311
    2014[81] 189,339

Also the Explorer sells about 20K units into the Police market as a tactical vehicle, I didn't even know that lol.

just frustrating when my points are missed completely. ;) I agree with you on the TRD Pro's look.

You did just describe your average home depot run as picking up a few tools with the dog and the family. My wife and dog stay home when I go to load up shit at home depot/lowes/home hardware because I'm not there to lollygag to be honest lol. Call it intuition or inference but most of the people I see at Home Depot with the whole family are buying drapes or a lightbulb, and not there for a new table saw or 5 sheets of drywall.

The Ford Explorer tows just as much as the 4Runner and comes equipped with a similar roof rack...

When my wife comes with me to Home Depot we could of brought her Sonata when she owned it and fit whatever we bought in that.

That looks as I would expect it to look, but has nothing to do with what I was talking about it. Anyway, we are way off topic now, lol.

I wonder how many people forget to add more dielectric grease when they change their headlights and end up burning their car to the ground or blowing fuses all the time...

I am sure this has been mentioned in the 38 pages, but they are missing possibly the number 1 factor why people buy Tacomas... Reliability track record in the model history.

Also, I think we are forgetting that the 4Runner is a few K more than a Tacoma. If both will work for a task, well, why not go with the slightly cheaper option?

oh god dammit.....LMAO...you are killing me...no i did not explain it that way...i was listing all the things you can do with the 4R....not describing a specific "home depot run." I was saying 90% of home depot runs can be accomplished in a 4R... then went on to say AND ALSO you can fit a full family in any weather, tow a boat, etc...... ya know, as in "swiss army knife" stuff...accomplish many different things

It had to do with CUV versus BOF SUV demand, which is where the conversation basically turned... because you figured that we should all be buying 4Runners and not Tacoma's because the Tacoma is for little dick syndrome sufferers :p.

So basically the same stuff you can do with a Tacoma, except the stuff you buy is in a box that has less limitations on dimensions....

I agree with you, we are running circles at this point lol.
