Yeah, the new pricing changes things a little and USA pricing might be closer. When my wife and I looked at a 4Runner it would of been about $53K OTD to buy the trim just above the SR5. A 2016 TRD Sport Premium Tacoma can be had up here for under $45K OTD. That's 8K of difference...

Oh, and just to really throw a wrench in things, a Colorado Z71 with similar options was about $43K and we ended up buying an F150 with slightly less options for ~41K OTD.

why do you keep saying "me" as in i am talking about myself ....do you only talk about yourself? i am saying the average person... most taco drivers.... not me specifically. i load all kinds of shit, which is why i am in the market for a pickup

Well right now the conversation is between you and I pretty much, so I use the appropriate pronouns for a direct conversation like a normal person :notsure:

The average Tacoma driver wants a 4x4 weekend warrior image vehicle for the lowest price with the options they want. On that, WE are agreed.

Sorry @DoorDing. I'll try not to bring up powerful memories of you staring longingly at your, literally, little soldier trying to will him to grow up and show some muscle.

Not gonna let you get away with it, haha. It's not the proper pronoun when having a discussion about the average person, even if we are the only ones having it. I could be, let's say a single school teacher that would be fine in a Prius, and still argue that a great majority of Taco owners would be better served in a Runner, and are just buying the truck for image because the Runner looks like a 'soccer mom' car 'cause of the CUV take over. You can't turn around and say "no, you only need a Prius," because we are not discussing me. ;)

anyway...the Colorado still kicks the shit of the 3rd gen! ;) haha

Sounds like the decision is made. 4Runner because a Colorado/Tacoma is for people with little dicks, and you don't want people to know the size of your penis :p.

In all seriousness, have you driven a Runner lately? It's a really kick-ass SUV. Also, I don't hate the new Taco.. I just do feel the Colorado beats it out for me, this time.

Yes. We, as in my wife and I, drove a 2014 Trail Teams edition and then SR5 model around for almost an hour this spring. She really liked the complete package on the Trail Teams but it was god aweful expensive, and the SR5 had 90% of what she wanted. Then she, not just me, went home and dug up mpg information as well as tow ratings, etc etc. We talked about it, and while the 4Runner would be a lot of fun, it was too much money for what we were going to get and didn't check all the boxes it needed for us. BTW these were our basic must have needs in no particular order.
    • The vehicle must tow 5000 lbs easily, or at least better than a Tacoma.
    • The vehicle must come with +4 seats.
    • The vehicle must have true 4WD.
    • The vehicle must be easy to clean.
    • The vehicle must get better than 15 mpg. 20 mpg preferable.
    • The vehicle must be able to hold a dog, two kids, and a stroller in some combination.
    • The vehicle must be grocery getter capable.
    • The vehicle must be 5 star safety rated.
    • The vehicle must take regular gas.
    • The vehicle must cost less than 50K and be financed for no more than 5 years. The interest rate must be under 2%.'
If we didn't buy the Ford I'm sure she would of saved the extra money for another year and then bought a 4Runner. She is very VERY happy with the F150. Enough that she flipped out on her spoiled cousin who tried to compare her daddy bought 328i to it for value.

Nothing I said implied that the 6 was used overseas. Get over it. You can't find a quote that I said that implies that.

Easy there old yellar. It doesn't matter. Let's just leave it at the fact that the V6 engine in the Colorado is really about as proven as the 2GR V6 in the new Tacoma. Neither have been in a pickup truck application yet, and neither has proven it's longevity in either truck.

How does your wife feel about that name? I know it's off topic but it begs the question in my humble opinion.

The rear auto locker on the GM is way better than Toyota's. 1st off, the Toyota's has to be in 4low to work. The GM's works in all driving modes. The GM's also comes on automatically as soon as slippage of any kind occurs. So if you start slipping pulling a boat out of water or on snow or any other serious situation, it kicks on right away. In any other vehicle you have to stop, put it in 4wd or turn it on some other way and then try again.

    Vehicle:
    2014 SR5 DCLB 4x4
Color matched door handles, Weathertech floor liners, bed mat, Durafit seat covers, tailgate clamp, 2016 TRD Sport 17" wheels with Yokohama Geolander AT tires , Toyota exhaust tip, Toyota/Yakima bike rail mount, Toyota wheel locks, Toyota hitch cover, Redline hood struts, unifilter on air pump.
I had the G80 auto locker in my 2004 Silverado and liked it very much. I've never had a Tacoma with locker so I can't compare the two systems.

You need 100 rpm spin difference to engage the GM rear automatic locker. It's a soft lock too, not the "jam it in tight honey" lock you may be used to from previous automatic lockers. It's more of a LSD than anything given those features, which is good for street, ice, and day to day driving but not as useful offroad. I would prefer the electronic locker.

As for towing a boat out, that's what 4WD is for IMHO.

Tomatoes or Tamatoes, it's all in what you want. For me, it's not a feature I find very useful.

It's more of a LSD in function than a traditional auto locking differential. I learned this on my test drive on some gravel. It feels the same as a Ford LSD. It would be nice if you could order an electronic locker like on the Ford instead.

Well, someone who just reads something online might think it's a traditional autolocker, but that's why you should always test drive.

How often do you stay in 4LOW offroading? Only in very slow, very tight situations. So in 4 Hi, the common use, you don't have the locker on. But in the GM, you would if any slippage occurs. If I want to hit up the dunes and romp around fast in 2wd in the GM, I have the tires locking. The Tacoma, better equipped for that type of "prerunning" off roading, doesn't get the locker for better traction. I really can't think of many scenarios where the Toyota locker works better for you.

And 100 rpm difference happens really quickly. Watch the youtube demonstrations of it.
