All I know is some years back "Top Gear" drove some Toyota Pickups to the North Pole, but they couldn't get a Ford or a Chevy to the top of a Mountain in Canada without losing a tire on the Ford, and snapping a driveshaft on the Chevy!
Granted, they DID break a shock and puncture a fuel tank on the Hilux, but it still made it!

Makes sense, really. A lot of the people that buy this category of trucks didn't really want a truck (just something that looked like a truck), so it makes sense that something that's not a pure truck would come out on top as the best suited for everyday life (e.g. commuting, kid hauling, etc.). Just looking at the interior pictures, the Honda wins hands down and the Frontier looks like it brought a plastic picnic knife to a gun fight.

I took a spin in a Tesla P90D and that thing was INSANE. I've never felt acceleration like that. :)

Fastest car I think I've ever been in was my buddy's 2012 Lamborghini Gallardo. I know there are plenty faster but it was fast enough for me.

Pretty sure that nobody at C&D is actually aware that some drivers actually leave the pavement deliberately once in a while.

Hard to believe they don't know that chevy and gmc are the same vehicles with different badging (and maybe a couple different cosmetic options one way or the other), but they probably felt the need to throw GM a bone for failing to rate by criteria limited to cupholders and USB ports...

I think the GMC styling is mo'betta than Canyon. But yes same truck otherwise.

Buddy had a ridge line and he lent it to me when I was getting my taco serviced. We went to go get round bales for my heifers. Lmao. Damn piece of junk could not pull the trailer out of the hay pasture. I placed in 4 wheel drive and it started making a ugly sound.left the trailer went and picked up the 4 cyl. Taco .the taco had no problems. And it's a 4 cyl.

Lol. No pic's. Sorry. But I will tell you this. The only thing I like about the ridge line was seeing it leave my ranch.

Look, I drive a gutless 4 banger too and I find it hard to believe that the ridgeline is out towed and out hauled by the 2.7l. Trust me, it was very difficult to write this....:anonymous:

I have been told that before. I do not have a problem towing with my 4cyl.taco. The pasture was a little wet. I started to pull after I put it in 4wd. It sounded bad. Power it had. But something was up with that truck. It was the awd version, the owner of the truck was with me. He took it in to service since it was still under warranty. And they told him nothing was wrong with the ridge line. I went in put the taco in 4wd and took the trailer out.

I bought a 3rd gen because it's still better than the other options in the US.

BUT, all Toyota needed to do was bring in the Hilux with the diesel and make the outside not look like a sanded turd, and I would have bought that. The Tacoma is Toyota dumbing down the Hilux because the American competition is just shit.

It was REALLY HARD to NOT buy the 2.7L manual access cab last week. I had the exact truck in 2003 and put 200,000 trouble free miles on it, and even towed a 3500# trailer to Texas and back (from Oregon) about 6 times. I have nothing but respect for the 2.7L. I am a little concerned about the complexity of what I did buy... but if in 36,000 miles it's trouble free I will keep it. If not, I'm going back to the 2.7L and manual access cab for sure! (If they haven't F'ed it up by then.)

At least the El Camino and Ranchero had Rear Wheel Drive and a Frame under them.

Not that it matters, but I couldn't agree less. Just like a cross over isn't an SUV and a scooter isn't a motorcycle, nothing with front wheel drive or without cab on frame construction is a truck. At best, it's truck like.

That doesn't mean they aren't fine vehicles in their own right, but they aren't trucks.
