Different truck for a different market. The Hilux is a work truck, you find them on farms all over the place in Europe. In the US there is a very limited market for work trucks in the mid sized chassis. The people who buy midsize are people with a specific need in mind, hence life-style, whether that be wheeling, camping, mountain biking, kayaking, surfing... Etc. this is where why you seen cost cutting of not boxing the frame, softer springs, composite bed, less ruggedized components. You can say the same with the GM's and Honda.

I tried watching the whole video, when the guy got to the point of you can fit one maybe two bikes in the back of the cab i checked out.

That is the perfect analogy of a ridgeline owner to me. buys truck, puts bikes in cab like he's driving a honda fit.

I Think the Ridgeline is more like a Rampage or the old unibody Rabbits.

Where does it say trucks have to be cab on frame? Even cars have both styles, is one a car and one is not?

And a scooter is a motorcycle lol. I don't even know what a crossover is so no comment on that

Probably true. If it was the last truck on earth, the world top billionaires would vie for it's purchase increasing it's cost to the hundreds of millions. You, and the rest of the people on Tacomaworld would then only be able to purchase a cart with a donkey.

I can't disagree, I'd take the tacoma body and bed with the Hilux frame and drive train.

How did you manage to put a fulltime AWD Honda into 4WD?

So I must really be the black sheep of the group... as I own a Frontier!!!
Why am I here? Simple really- I am wanting to buy a new Tacoma, but just can't pull the trigger yet($$$ commits elsewhere).
I have a 06 Frontier, and yes I really like it- but I want a change. I want a sport/Off Road model- but Nissan won't give us one with the Long Bed... Toyota will. I can't seem to stomach the looks of the GM Twins- as they look awkward to me, AND I worry for their reliability a few years down the road.
What hurts- is even though they rate the Frontier as last- it really isn't that bad. The article said something to the effect that they don't make em like this any more... and thats a good thing- there is nothing inherently wrong with the Frontier.

For an old truck, it still fairs well against the competition... the complaint is not about its capabilities... it is more about Nissan not doing anything to update its looks and fuel efficiency.

I hear the Ridgeline has an automatic transmission with 4.30 gears.

I understand the rag world(oops I mean magazine world!) wanting to see fresh changes. However- they obviously didn't like the existing design.
I've seen supposed versions of the next gen NP300 version- and can't get over the front end or the dash...makes me wanna hurl!

Maybe it's just me but I always get a laugh whenever Car and Driver reviews trucks. They always review the GMC and Chevy pickups seperately, as if we're so stupid that we think that they are different vehicles....

Electric motor = instant Tourqe and speed. Remember the old electric race tracks and cars we had as kids, those things went from zero to hitting the wall after flying off the track.

LOL, "Frontier keeps on rolling—its basic design dates to 2005" -- essentially new, its only been around for 11 years. Doesn't Tacoma's "basic design" date back to 1992? I.e., its evolved along the lines of T100 --> 1st gen Tundra (T110) --> 2nd/3rd gen Tacoma (T120).

My buddy has a Frontier. That thing has over 200k on it and it's still going strong, leaky valve cover gaskets and all. They seem to be really loyal to their trucks, those Frontier owners....

Not sure about your T100 question. There are a few around here and they look like a real 'trucky' truck. I'm sure Car and Driver would rate them awfully, even though they never actually seem to die.
