This guy is my inspiration as well. Also, you can absolutely get a 6spd manual in the 16. Your truck and my truck will take shape into basically the same thing it sounds, I had the same idea. I thought it would be pretty sweet to be able to just pull over anywhere and hop in the back.

I don't think I'm going to go with a tank/pump though, I'm just going to use jerry cans and a stainless bug sprayer with a different nozzle. KISS. I'm not hating on anyone because I'm absolutely guilty of it but I see a bunch of people that get pretty gear crazy and I just see some of that as stuff to potentially screw you in the middle of no where.

It's the same thing with the backpacking crowd. There's what you will most likely need and what you could potentially in some rare instance need. You have to figure out what's worth it and not. Maybe this obscure tool that costs several hundred dollars and takes up valuable space could bail your ass out in some obscure scenario but what are the odds of all your unlucky stars aligning just right and what are the consequences if they do?

Thanks Alex, still searching as we are looking for something for family members to use with a cot. My father wants to camp and fish with his grandson but there is no way he's climbing up into the FlipPac.

Tepui/ARB both have the standard walls. They mount the same way I believe.

Yes! I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought like this... it can be done with so many other vehicle platforms as well, but the Tacoma will be one of the most capable yet practical/reliable platforms you can buy. I wish it were more fuel efficent, but I'll take the reliability any day.

are there any very low profile roof racks for the 2nd gen double cabs that could handle standing on as well as mounting an awning off the side?
would prefer an aluminum version over steel for obvious weight reasons.

i made one of those cool drawer systems in my last truck,it was nice but it wieghted a ton. the i'd fill it up, talk about understeer. plus it made sleeping in back feel like a coffin.

Prinsu is the lowest you are going to get. Front runner is just a tad taller. Both are great. Eezi awn k9 makes a custom kit I know Equipt expedition outfitters has installed. Lab rack is also an option but I don't know anything about theirs.

Just scrolling back over the last few pages and got a little giggle out of this. Not a real truck, very well done though. There are a few things that give it away, but Vaterra Ascender diff cover just screams 1:10.

@DefconBrix and I like to get out and explore Utah when we can. Little bit of overlanding, but nothing too extensive yet. Thought we'd start to document our trips - check out On Some Adventure:

Living vicariously through old memories. This one is from a trip to Cathedral Valley and Canyonlands, UT, last April. Damn good time.
