The difference between camping with my girl and my boys on wheeling trip is as simple as a case of wine vs. beers and booze. She's not a fan of beer and I like wine so we rough it pinkies out :p And with the fellas I like to break out the liquor and chase it with beer :drunk:

Send me a message I'll help you out. i plan on re doing mine soon. In my new design you can cut down on parts & failure points and won't ever risk losing coolant if something breaks.

I'm in the process of building up my expo 2nd gen and I'm debating on whether I should go remote resi or not. Is it really needed or way over kill?

    Expo usually also means
    Extremely goddamned heavy.
We haven't quite figured out how to make a vehicle able to sustain us for days or weeks on end and keep it the same weight as stock.
You'll regret not having them when you get shock fade and your bump stops become your suspension.

I've been on a couple routes where I'm totally loaded up and its a whooped out bumpy road for 15 miles straight. You'll never go fast but suspension should be your first concern IMO.
If I were to do it again, I would get the adjustable resi that king and a couple others make. It's been a pain trying to valve my shocks correctly- what feels comfortable when loaded up with a weeks worth of supplies is way too stiff when buzzin around town between trips.
    Buy once, cry once.

The resi is used to help keep the shock/coil over cool I was told if your not in a place where it gets crazy hot or your not driving it like a rally truck where your coils get hot quick it's not really needed so I just got resis in the back being a smaller surface area probably gets hotter quicker but didn't get it for the fronts
That being said having the funds to get them for both I would have

This. I've been driving heavy, loaded down trucks for years on trips some would call "expo-ing" :p and I travel pretty fast on those trips too. If you have the money for remote reservoir shocks without sacrificing something else, then go for it, but for 95% of the people out there, they just aren't necessary. I realize my opinion is unpopular on this forum where so many feel like KINGS are the only 'real' option for suspension but I guess I'll keep being unpopular. :)

Yes. Get one. And get a mid-rise cap, the one with an extra 5-6" of head space. I looked back at a 3-yeard old thread, and it was measured out to 42" of vertical space.

Best truck mod there is IMO. :D

Pretty much exactly why I want with remote resi rears as well. Usually always loaded down with gear and hell we all just want to haul ass sometimes. Haha. I ordered front and rear Icons while they had their black friday sale. Only got the resi in the rears though. Just couldn't scrape up enough funds to get them on the fronts and didn't want to miss out on the nearly 400 in savings by getting them during the sale.

The only real "regret" I have so far with my truck is I wish I would have sprang for remote resi shocks in the rear (I have Icons). A lot of my off road trips involve many miles of washboard roads at decent speeds, and if I touch my shocks when I stop, they're always really hot. My other regret is getting 265/70s instead of 285/70s.

I love my canopy, it's totally the way to go. I don't go out enough to make the expense of a RTT worth it, so sleeping in the canopy is great. You don't sacrifice too much storage space if you're creative with how you cram everything into the truck.

I made the mistake of going non-reservoir my first time around. While it was a great upgrade compared to stock, the novelty quickly wore off after sustained off-road travel. What happens is the upgrade from stock allows you to tackle terrain faster, which then overheats the small amount of fluid in the shocks and you experience shock fade. Once that happens, your damping is greatly compromised and you're back to a stock like ride, if not worse.

The benefit from a reservoir shock to a non reservoir shock isn't so much the initial ride difference (unless you have damping control added), it's about how LONG it can maintain it.

I wasted a lot of money convincing myself I could get by with the basics...
