MT stuff, RTT stuff, the usual.
I'd just get a racing fuel cell, 30-40 gallons, or however much you're wanting.

@colinb17 has an excellent solution for additional fuel using a marine gas tank & transfer pumps. Check out his build thread for details.
That company in bend or wants mad cash for their Extra capacity tank - it's a 35 gal tank that fits in the stock location but they want like 2K for it. :(

There's a first gen who did something similar using a gas tank out of a 1990 f150 installed in our stock spare location and uses a momentary switch to power the pump to deliver fuel to the main tank.

Yeah it won't fit on the new truck since I bobbed the bed and added storage between the frame rails. I'd pay the 2k if it would fit. I looked at Collin's, I'm thinking something similar just with the bigger tank. By the time I take this thing to Alaska I should be V8 swapped and there's no telling how shitty my milage will be (although it may actually be better).

It also seems like every year since I've moved here we have some natural disaster where fuel becomes an issue. There's been a major ice storm, a flood and hurricane in the 4 years I've been here.

I've looked at those extended tanks but they're just too much money. I can keep 2-4 cans in my bed without using up too much space. That's the same added capacity as the tank at a fraction of the cost. It's less convenient but I'm OK with that.

I know you are going to carry a shit ton of weight in your SAS rig, like your DD.

So why not go all out with the Scepter cans and put them on the roof. :p

x2 Much more practical. IMO, you can find a gas station just about anywhere in the U.S spaced within reasonable distance. I currently only carry reserve fuel for Death Valley trips. I would for sure carry fuel for Baja, Mexico, and probably travels in Alaska.

An alternative to Scepters on the roof, are a quad carrier swing out.

Billy @ Brute Force Fab, Custom swing gate, (4) scepters + Fridge. Untold EAF points, there. ;)

With his suspension setup all that weight on the ass-end isn't a problem.
I'd be doing a wheelie down the trails with that!

Adding weight on the ass end of a frame is not without consequences, even for Billy's rig. I don't want to go into specifics, cause it's not my rig, but handling is definitely affected at some levels.

I think that goes for all vehicles, laws of physics and all.

If I had to carry a lot of fuel cans, I suppose I would do
    • Bed first
    • Roof second
    • Swing gate Last
Since I have a shell, the bed is out, and it's either roof or gate.

Would be great to keep heavy, dense things low and centered but not always possible.

    :)

If you had a tire swing out you could build a rack for cans in the old spare tire space.

Thats why I like the behind the cab idea. It's one of the better places to carry weight if you have to. It'll be empty most of the time but still.

I' going to have to mount my spare on a swingout but I bobbed the bed by a foot. That will give the tire a little less leverage. I just have to be more creative with my storage solutions.

That would help keep it low. :) Maybe use some UHMWPE sheet to help protect the cans.

I don't know, I'm guessing because it's oversize tire, he has to use the bed space for it.

Good idea, but I've already started building a box for tools and stuff to go there. And its a foot shorter than it was since I bobbed it

Hence my admiration for @colinb17 setup. 15 gal mounted in the front of the bed up against the Cab.
IIR the tank was under $200 and he has maybe another $100 or so in the pump mechanism.
True that you loose bedspace but the placement is choice for the balance of COG.

Thanks @HomerTaco , I was curious and went and looked at @colinb17 's build.

Was not easy to find (found on page 239!), these two posts seem most relevant.

    Very nice indeed!
