Agreed. I only have two gas cans and a single 34" wheel on the back, going through whoops or even over uneven pavement I can feel the cantilevering as the truck moves around. I like to keep my weight as close over the axles as possible, but without a bed I have limited space.

 

I have that tank saved on my Amazon wishlist. I ALMOST did the same thing but ended up with my spare battery mounted there and 4 40mm ammo cans next to it. SO I just mounted a fuel can on my swingout. Of course this is on my DD, in my profile.

Having 2 Tacomas is confusing. Thus I've named them Basketcase and Black N Tan

Since he is on 42" tires the spare fits perfectly in the bed of his truck. THE ENTIRE BED!

 

Don't know if I'll do it - I'd have to create a way to fill the tank though my cap.

 

I just kinda realized my truck fits this thread pretty well... I've just made most of the "overland" gear removable.

I hear ya though, as I'm planning on a cap too, really want the habitat, just steep $ tag so probably a ways down the road.

 

That's what I figured. I ordered 41.5 Pitbull Rocker Radials so I'd be in the same boat. I figure the spare will negate the bed bob and give me about the same overal length as running without it.

 

In regards to those setups I personally feel that the wildernest has the best design. Lower profile than either the Flippac or the habitat.
Too bad they don't make them anymore.

I am. At least for now. I might swap to a cell later but if I do it'll be because I'm not satisfied with my mounting or for ease of adding a bigger pump when I V8 swap. I haven't looked at that particular tank but most of the ones I've seen use space that I no longer have because of the big ass 14 bolt, my storage compartment and/or the bobbed bed

 

I thought about this but all I can find are horizontal, meaning they'll take more bed space, which is already at a premium

I may just order this thing and see what happens

 

@otis24 put a auxiliary fuel tank out of another pickup in his tacoma. Pretty slick system. Extended his range to nearly 500 miles IIRC

Yeah, I put it between the frame rails in the back where the spare tire used to be.

The hardest part was finding in a intact aux fuel tank from an older Ford F150. That took about 6 trips to various pick and pulls. When I finally found one it took forever to wrestle the bastard out. All together it took me about a year of gathering parts and actually putting the tank in. I've had the bed of my truck off about 5 times.

There are other tanks that are usable. Mostly you just want something that's the approximate dimensions of the space you're putting the tank in. Someone on here used a 42 gallon tank from a Chevy Suburban. The truck can carry 60 gallons of fuel now.

The longest range I got was 600 miles drafting my friends box truck going 65mph with few stops on the highway. Nowadays I get about 425 since I put 33 inch mud terrain tires, built a heavier sleeping platform (currently making a new one that'll be 100 pounds lighter), also my light bar (which is coming off) eats about 1-2 mpgs.
