It's like 18 inches tall so it hangs down a bit.

This is pretty nice. I like how he ran the fuel filler into the bed. I didn't go that route because I have a sleeping platform in my bed. I also like how he mounted the tank into the truck.

I should add it took me a while to have confidence in the tank's structure. On one of it's 1st trips I pulled off a dirt road and the truck was on an angle. There was gasoline pouring out of the top of it. This happened to be the second day of an 8 day trip to Baja. It turned out to be a leaky gasket where the fuel pump and sending unit go into the tank. The only other issue I've had is the fuel guage reads backwards and now it's broken all together so I need to replace it with one that reads correctly. It's survived two Baja trips and a whole lotta off roading. Baja alone has been about 2,000 miles of rough dirt roads mostly following the wooped out Baja 1,000 course from whatever year we were there.

The one thing I was going to ask you when I re-read your tank setup last night is if your aux tank is bigger than your stock tank? If it isn't couldn't you just run your stock tank out until it starts sputtering and then hit the pump switch for your aux tank? That way no risk of destroying the evap cannister again. My dad's old f-150 had a dual tank setup stock and he would run one tank till it started bucking and then hit the switch for the second tank.

Thanks for finding that. saved me from digging back through all of my photos

since the original install, I also added a filler neck to the tank, so I don't have to crawl into the bed to fuel up.

I thought about just doing a switch tank set up...like a solenoid controlled valve but I didn't want to have to mess around with putting a toyota fuel pump into the aux tank (I'm not even sure if a toyota fuel pump would be needed now that I think of it).
The aux tank is 1/2 gallon bigger but because of the way I set up my fuel filler hose I can only fit about 16 gallons in it.

Well I bought it. It was on sale and in stock. I've got work to do on the brakes tomorrow but I might start building the mount for it. This will make up the back of the bed and be encased by the exocage

MT stuff, RTT stuff, the usual.
For those looking for a fuel tank to supplement, an old Bronco II tank might work decent.

The 22 gallon tank from a 1970 ford mustang would work well. It's thin enough to sit up high and would fill space nicely. (In theory) and you can get them new for less than $70 online.

The mustang tank's fuel filler isn't in the best location. I looked long and hard at it. That's the only thing I could find wrong with it.

An additional fuel tank would be so legit.

Fully loaded my truck will get about 230 miles out of a tank - on a good day. Lots of 4wd use or hills and you can bring that number down to about 180-200. A lot of my planning revolves around gas availability/locality.

The Arizona Strip is going to be an adventure just finding enough room for extra gas :bananadead:

This is exactly why I installed the aux tank in my truck. Refuelling is no longer a part of the planning process.

Does your bed rack have a swing out for the tire on it? That is awesome.

its actually a swing up. allows you to slide taller items into the bed, or turn the bed into a swimming pool on a hot day......your choice ;)

i have bolts in this picture, but you can swap them out for pins for quicker release. after pulling the pins, all you do is unplug the waterproof plugs for the reverse light and license plate lights, and flip it up.

microburst windstorm hit Washington DC 4-5 years ago. in a matter of minutes, it knocked out power for days. those days happened to be over 100 degrees and crazy humid. had to improvise.
