I'm into cooking and usually hang out over on ExPo in the Overland Chef area. About a month ago I took my Girlfriend camping on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon and I made this. The flowers I had bought the day before because she had a hard day at work (nurse) and she wanted to bring them along.

Thanks man! I'm still climbing in the gym twice a week. I did go to Lemmon and climb for a weekend recently and stoked for the cooler weather now. I'm almost fully over my fear to lead outside after breaking my back in a sport whipper. My trad rack looks at me in sadness lol soon tho. Soon.

Some of the other meals we have had are
Grilled cheese flight with 3 different grilled cheeses
Argentinian style skirt steak with chimmichurri, roasted sweet potatoes and grilled bread
Slider sampler: seared ahi tuna and peanut sauce, Portobello mushroom with balsamic glaze and classic cheese burger
Spanish Chorizo and potato soup (PATATAS A LA RIOJANA) and artisan bread
    Churros and chocolate
Bourbon peach crumble with maple pecan granola
    Paella (pictured above)

Other than the paella all of these other things are super simple and fun to make. I'd love to hear something fun that any of you guys make that aren't the standard camping food.

Recently saw one of these for the first time and thought it was a neat concept to have the bedding hang over the cab of the truck. What’s the weight capacity of the part that does hang over?

I appreciate the input. Working on mitigating the shortcomings. It does have the sway-away torsion bar upgrade as well as the SLO rain fly.

Have you ever removed the tent from the flippac before? I want to remove it this winter and clean, repair a few small holes, Nikwax /seamseal mine and maybe get a few quotes for a replacement simikar to the habitat one. Assuming its just pull the tube out and the tent will eventually come off (like in pic below)? The tube thing has already started to pull out on mine and when closed i have a good 1.5 ft of tube hanging from the camper

Thanks for the information, good to know I dont remove the plastic tube to remove the tent. When yours was closed did any of that plastic tube stick out the back? Since ive had mine its always stuck out of the back end driver side while closed - originally it was like 3" but while parking downtown someone decided to give it a tug and i came back to it pulled out to where it sits currently. Is the tube sticking out normal or should be similar to whats on the passenger side?

Ive seen a few people including yourself taking on various forums about tents being re-manufactured for sale - only problem for me is being on an island in canada is its usually expensive to ship and I pay 12% extra tax at the boarder, or require two ferry rides to go pick stuff up in the US. I figure there are a lot of marine and boat shops around me so they should be able to come up with something with a condition being my current tent cant be sacrificed, if I cant make my own, or a US option isn't feasible for me.

Jim is right, that should not be sticking out at all in any position.

As to getting the tent remade, do you have a sail shop nearby that makes sails and bimini tops for boats? This is something that if they are willing to tackle, they could likely do for you.

Okay thanks! - I can use the Passenger side as reference as theirs no problem on that side - just need to push the tube back in further (all the way, dont leave 3" out like when I got it). Once its in may glue the ends in place so it doesnt slide out again

Thanks! Yes thats what I was thinking - Quite a few of them here on the island.

I’m working with a manufacturer in New York state right now via email to look into a replacement tent that is an improvement over the original.

I imagine that the lack of interest partially comes from the limited sales volume expected reducing the return on their investments. Small shops tend to live hand to mouth and are always trying to make sure they can keep the lights on.

The original design isn’t horrible but it certainly could use some feature upgrades and the use of better materials.

    Edit: Duck you autocorrect

Awesome thread, everybody. I've been all over these forums ever since I bought my first 4Runner in 2006. Yotatech, TTORA, TW, Expedition Portal, ect. I've contributed a bit here and there over the years but mostly just lurked. The amount of info, discussion, and reviews found here is just incredible. Over the last four nights at work I've been on stand-by-to-stand-by mode, and binged through all ~700 pages of this thread. Awesome community (except for those Bros at about page 600).

The evolution of technology, trends, companies rising a falling, it's been fascinating. Huge shoutout especially to @Box Rocket Blackdog @uscg2008 @Scott B. @inv3ctiv3 @HomerTaco @jberry813 and many others for your input over the years here and on the other forums as well. @Box Rocket especially, still one of the best looking Tacos every put together

First everyone was making sleeping platforms for their camper shells, then RTTs came around, followed by the rise of trailer. I started with a TruckBedzz myself, then a Tepui RTT, and now onto a home built pop-up camper. The ROFs (@Gramps) and other have mentioned the Instagram generation of trendy "Expedition" and "Overlander" wanna-bes. The rise in popularity has led to a lot of great innovation, cool new products, too many crappy products, and more people on the trail. Complaining that anybody just buys a truck and slaps tires and traction boards without earning it is a bit of a fools argument: Yea the OGs started literally wading through the mud to find what works to "earn" their #EAF status, and now newcomers can benefit from that knowledge. Nothing wrong with that (as long as they Tread Lightly). Thank you to all who have bought, built, tested, broken, loved, hated various aspects of this hobby and lifestyle over the years, you've made my life on the trail better for it.

I dont have much of a build thread here on TW I dont think, but you can check out my profile on ExPo to benefit from my various roadtrips, explorations, ideas, triumphs, and tribulations. http://www.expeditionportal.com/for...es-and-Build-Thread-2004-Tacoma-DoubleCab-TRD

Be safe out there, pack out your garbage, and have fun.
