I meandered for two hours amongst the volcanic landscape, and by the time I was back on my planned route, the sky wasn't quite as clear as it'd been at the start of the day. Yes, I'd cheated the weather for a few hours, but winter was coming...

How do you like your first gen? Any regrets not getting a second gen? I'm thinking about getting a little 1st Access cab and building it out so my son and I can go on some dirt exploring trips without my wife and daughter. It wouldn't be our main family vehicle, more for exploring the Southwest. Wife not a huge fan of desert camping. But I love it

Love the first gen. Sure, it doesn't have some of the amenities of newer trucks, but the size is perfect (for two people), and it's super reliable. I've owned it since new, so I'm probably also a bit biased ;).

Our camp perched only a few feet from edge of the steep canyon wall, we didn't wander far for the rest of the evening, so dramatic were the views, the roar of the Colorado, and the ever changing light. We ate an early dinner to take advantage of the warm temps (at only 2,500') and make clean-up a breeze. And then, we enjoyed the sunset...

We just did 10 days, 2,400 miles, first real trip in the new-to-us 4th Gen 4Runner.

South Dakota to Utah and back through the Rockies. Good times! That V8 is nice on the interstate :)

How's the Gazelle ground tent? I've got one of the screenrooms and it's pretty awesome. Assuming the tent is similar just with solid walls/ floor? Besides being bulky any cons so far? I may bite the bullet and get one to replace my aging but trusty un-expo Coleman 3 season Target special ground tent.

Honestly we always camp inside our vehicle. Last trip I posted in here we lived in the back of our 99 4Runner the whole time and much prefer that to any ground tent or roof tent or trailer, etc. But this trip we picked some people up for part of it and brought the cat haha so it was just the cheapest, fastest, easiest compromise to sleeping inside.

That said, for $200 something I don’t see a better sleeping arrangement out there. Sucks that it’s so huge compared to a backpacking tent when packed, but sleeping in it was warm, set up and tear down only take 2-3 minutes for the tent and another 5-10 for the rest. I’d still prefer in the vehicle, but we got it for trips that we can’t do that.

Spacious inside, the T3x version we have fits perfect sideways in the back, I can almost stand up and the wife can fine. Watch out for the single wall condensation, and we threw a blanket between the roof screen and the rain fly on below freezing nights to help but either way a tent that big stays pretty cold. Other than that we’re super happy with it and will likely buy another for when the in-laws come to the states for a big trip rather than a RTT. $200 vs $3-5,000 and being able to stand up, move around, go take a leak, etc. Fast enough. I’d say go for it.

    Barely fits ha

I think it’s just called a tire table ha don’t really remember. Great for when you don’t have clean level ground or don’t want to being anything larger. Water and dirt fall right through it instead of having to wipe it off. Downside is obviously that you can’t set it anywhere and if your tires are nasty that may affect you. Does my wife. Doesn’t me. Ha.

This one is aluminum. Packs up nice.

Put in some good work between Idaho and Oregon with my son this past few days.
Took on my first river pass ... nothing major, knee deep, but we had a blast.

That Owyhee area is awesome, I was just there for my fifth time or so. LOVE IT, and that river crossing is a fun one. Have you ventured south in the area at all? Here are the trips I've taken there:

Thats dope. The farthest West, South west I have been thus far is about here, above Lake Owyhee.
Looking to get out this weekend again! TWO Weekends in a row... setting records all over the place.
