That Auto Trans was my main complaint with the 3rd Gen, there are a lot of hills around here and that Trans was constantly shifting up and down. Usually when someone new comes around I suggest at minimum they do an overnight test drive to see if it is something they can live with.

Pretty reasonable review I guess... Maybe.
I like the interior though. I don't want a car interior in a truck.
Sometimes I feel people who review trucks forget that they're trucks and expect car like features. I like the way the tacoma handles and I like the interior...
These are truck features that make trucks a unique and fun experience, imo.
If everything that the reviewer said was true or even popular opinion, the Tacoma wouldn't be handing everyone their assess in sales.
The positives outweigh the negatives which is why Toyota is killing it.
If they fix the engine/trans issues, it will turn an already unfair advantage for Toyota into a monopoly :mudding:

Midsized market needs better competition. Hope ford steps it up with the baby Raptor

Agreed. I'm wishing Ford success. Looking forward to the new redesigned Frontier as well.

Toyota needs the competition. It will make a much better Tacoma.

Isn't it amazing these terrible trucks they talk about out sells the rest. If these trucks are this bad and out sell the rest what does that say about the other trucks.

Article says to get the manual.
Their chart shows 50-70 for 2016 manual 13.8 secs.
Their chart shows 5.3 secs for 2017 auto 50-70.
    Same engine.

    WTF?

I know my manual doesn't take 14 seconds to go from 50-70. Unless they run quarter throttle in 6th lol.

Utilitarian truck is the correct description. That's what I was looking for when I bought the truck. If I wanted something fancier, I would have looked for something with "Denali" on it.

The words solid gold stood out in the article. Braking was the best.

Not sure I'd describe heated seats, wireless charger, cross traffic alert, blind spot monitoring etc as "utilitarian"... unless you bought the SR.

And for 35k to 40k for some of the more popular trims it is nearly as much as some of those more "luxurious" trucks.

Bottom line, I really enjoy my truck. I've owned S-10s, Silverados, and a JKU. I've also driven F-150s and F-250s for work. The Taco combines many of the best attributes of all of those. Yes, the engine isn't the most powerful, yes the tranny is known to hunt for gears (although my experience hasn't been terrible-and we have LOTS of hills in the Shenandoah Valley), but in the end my 3rd gen is still a really good, capable truck.

What I don't understand are those that think it's a dog and keep on bitching about it without doing anything. Sell the damn thing and get something "better". Good luck to ya and go troll someone else's forum.

In the real world if you hate it you'd sell it. This is the internet age where some people use these forums to get their 15 minutes.
They live on these sites just hoping to add in a comment and be noticed. If somebody buys a new truck they must jump in and make sure they feel stupid for making such a huge mistake. If they sold the truck they would have to search for an identity in a Chevy or Nissan site.
